Kalgoorlie Wednesday 14th Sept - Hannans Day

Gary Wright has kindly stepped in to preview this meeting as Hoops is away.

Apart from The Reverend who backs up after Sunday, the weights are compressed to 53kg for every other runner. its not really a handicap is it? KKK looks suited even with the weight. Wolfe Dreams surely claps on the pace here? Sitting has not helped the horse at all.

Experts: What are your thoughts on the Ol' Fella?

Better trip for him, considering way Coolgardie Cup was run (hard) he was always gonna be tested for stamina. Went well considering.

IMO horse has a limited sprint, can't sustain it long enough to come around them and win. Better suited saving ground and angle for run, which normally isn't the best idea in Kal.

Can win, but you'd want overs. Been up a while too.

    Notable movements,

    Our Ol' Fella $8.00 into $5.50 (Centrebet/Player)
    Sonny Biscay $51 - $34 - $26 now into $21 (Centrebet/Player)
    Intimidator $31 into $17 (IAS)
King Kool Kat $6.50 into $4.40 (NSW)

KKK has gone up $4 on Player. Makes the $6.50 look very generous.
  • RECODE is an interesting selection - will surely get back and that spells danger at KAL

my favoutite word used in this article "bombproof". Usually means something will go wrong!

King Kool Kat To Break Hannan's Record

    image

Ian Glading is confident King Kool Kat is capable of creating history by winning today?s $130,000 Goldfields Mining Expo-Hannan?s Handicap (1400 metres).

The bomb-proof son of King Cugat has inherited the toughness and versatility of his sire and from his perfect barrier of three, should get most of the favours in running.

?If he was drawn out wide and had to work hard early with the weight, I would have been worried.? Glading said at Belmont Park trials on Monday. ?He is working nicely and has reached peak fitness for his title defence.?

King Kool Kat will become the first horse to successfully defend a Hannan?s Handicap title, since the amazing three peat of Lorna?s Nuisance (1977, 78, 79).

The mighty Santa Brae preceded Lorna?s Nuisance and collected a brace of wins (75, 76) while Stolen Thunder for Barry Curtis was also able to win the race twice in 1984, 86.

But the weight carrying record in the metric era will fall if King Kool Kat is successful today.

The pint sized Corporate Bruce lumped 59 kg to win the race back in 2001 for Kristian Hawkins and Hec McLaren and that effort stands as the benchmark of the modern era.

King Kool Kat should get a similar trail throughout the race to last year when Duncan Miller tracked Lucid Reflection into the home straight, before overpowering the Territorian over the final 200 metres.

?It looks like Verster should cut across to lead and hopefully we can trail him into the race like last year. Duncan knows him well and if they don?t go quick enough for him, he won?t be waiting for them.? Glading said

McGruddy should be taken out back and shot after that ride.

A race with obvious pace and he opts to ride OOF out the gates and get it parked wide throughout without cover.

He's cost them this and the Coolgardie Cup now.

I remember a few starts back the owners said they wanted a change of jock - Wolfe not listening has cost them 150k

You are correct, Darren had a shocker. Same colours but the horses are very different. Wolfe is a giant chestnut, OOF is a b/br and smaller.
