i see Grand Jardin is in the market. Any news on this horse? He cost me plenty Melb Cup last year when he won at $40+!!! I had $60 wins on it and then realised i had marked the wrong number on the ticket! Cancelled it as i didnt think it could win..... well the rest is history! Couldnt bring myself to back on Railway Stakes day last year either....... Wins again

i think they flipped coins to decide who was in this market. Idyllic Prince has been retired and is in there!

    IF...BC doesn't show up
IF...Barakey doesn't qualify or go that route

WS looks a good price at $7 (All-In, but still, if those two aren't in the race come Nov 19, be surprised if you'd be getting 7's on the 'Tah)

But you are right Chris - I'd tend to wait for the final field, too much water to flow under the bridge between now and 19th Nov.

When does the Railway market come out ?? Waratahs will be heading up the locals i would have thought

How can they frame a market for the winterbottom when the nominations aren't even out yet. Half of those horses will not be nominated
  • LuckyLongshotsLuckyLongshots    4,270 posts
I'd have thought Waratah's would have been going to the Winterbottom, but if BC is there, the Railway is probably the better option.
  • Barakey is massive overs - will be odds on for sure

When do the noms for the Railway and Winterbottom close?

they have just made the field up... no noms to go off etc... they just figured they'd hope for some punters to pile into caviar with multis etc...

you'd struggle to get a decent bet in that market i reckon

massive overs for a horse that I doubt will be there, I thought All Friared Up was overs @ $61, 2nd up into the Wointerbottom, yep overs for sure 8)

Anyone who thinks BC will be there is Dreaming

A committee member standing for re-election cast doubts on her participation. His comment was that it was almost hard to believe that it could happen, because it was too good to believe if it came off. So he told me to not get my hopes up as many things happen in Racing.

"The owners have always been very much looking forward to showcasing her to Australia.?

"Perth is very much in the picture.?

All that is required to do is water the track to Dead 4, and put on a return flight within 24 hours of the race to Melbourne.

Subject to her pulling up OK from her previous start.

    Nothing special

Would need to water it between each race to get it to Dead 4.
If Dead 4 before race 1 would be Good 2 come Winetrbottom start time :P

Your brave suggesting that in this forum!! Wouldn't want to do her any favours or anything, or does all that change when it's Perth's chance to get a look at her?

    waratah's headed for the Railway....

    story by Jay Rooney:

Waratah's Secret confirmed he is on track for the $1 million Carlton Draught Railway Stakes after successfully defending his Prince Of Wales Stakes (1200m) title at Ascot.

Heavily backed into $1.65 favouritism, Waratah's Secret trailed early leader Werd in running before hitting the lead in the straight and holding off a fast-finishing Grand Nirvana ($7.50) by a long head.

King Kool Kat ran a brave third after he was trapped three-wide in running.

Waratah's Secret boosted his record to nine wins from 18 starts for $573,450 in stake earnings with the Group Three win.

The five-year-old, runner-up in the Birthday Stakes and Northerly Stakes before the win, will head to the $200,000 WAROA Lee-Steere Stakes (1400m) before the Railway (1600m) on November 19.

A new rider will be required for the Lee-Steere with Prince Of Wales-winning rider Paul Harvey out of action because a careless riding suspension.

Trainer David Harrison said he is keen to see Waratah's Secret stretch out to the 1600m of the Railway and expects him to be hard to beat in the Lee-Steere.

Harrison will also nominate him for the Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) on November 19 but is keen to dodge superstar mare Black Caviar.

"It was a good, tough win," Harrison said.

"Today was just a matter of whether I had him fresh enough and he might have been too fresh after pulling early.

"I was a bit worried then but he boxed on really well.

"He's obviously looking for more ground.

"He's really matured as a horse this time in and I'm looking forward to stepping up to the mile."

In other news, trainer Simon Miller will push on to the Fairetha Stakes (1400m) in a fortnight with Ron's Call, who impressively won the Westspeed 3YO Handicap (1200m).

Miller hopes to keep Ron's Call, who arrogantly defeated Venetian Prince by 2.25 lengths, up for the $350,000 WA Guineas (1600m) on November 19.

"He's a very good horse," Miller said.

"I'll just keep an eye on him. I'll head to the Fairetha and provided everything's all right, go on to the Guineas."

Miss Solis handed Miller a double with an equally impressive win in the Westspeed 2YO Plate (1000m).

Her winning time was just 1.16 seconds outside the track record after she cantered through the first 200 metres in 14.11s before reeling off four sub-11 second sectionals including 10.44s between the 600m and 400m.

She was eased down the last 200 metres in 11.69s.

Moody said he and the owners would decide on Monday whether Black Caviar would have her campaign finale in the Group One $1 million Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot on November 19.

Moody said she was booked fly to Perth on Tuesday night, all being well.

"She will tell us in the next 48 hours and then we will make a decision whether she travels to Perth or goes for a break," he said.

"I would love to go (to Perth) but we have got to make sure the horse is right first.

"It has been a hot day here today, the track is pretty firm, so we want to make sure she has pulled up good."

Hope someone has checked the actual prizemoney

If she is coming then Race 5. If not then Race 8 as normal.
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,505 posts
No, it will be race 3 or 4 as the connections have asked for an early slot "so they can enjoy the day..."
    Winners rule!!

I think its gonna be race 5 --- connections of black caviar have asked if there can be no race 4 or 6---they are worried about their champion being inconvenienced.
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,505 posts
I'd be worried about her too if she were mine...dream on falcon..
