    No idea.

I do remember him as a very free-actioned horse, lovely loose-limbed. If that's what makes a good sire . . . then yeah.

Had brilliance, longevity and performed in local conditions - they're all pluses

He was very clean-winded too and very well natured for a colt/stallion

Was thinking of sending my mare to him just for something different. Not sure if he's been given much of a chance so far.

No offence to your mare,I have no idea what her form is etc.but if anyone really likes him put a mare to him that isn't "a throw away mare"they won't all end up being Mr Moet.I know it's a numbers game but if Black Tom is going to survive as a stallion he's going to need a little help.Unless of course he is one of those freaky stallions that can upgrade any mare.

What was the racing name of your mare & just to be sure, can I have her Sire as well ? I will let you know what that cross has produced previously in the last 20 years, then at least you are making a decison that is in addition to the racing performance of Black Tom.

Going to Black Tom is almost like trying to swim upstream with this mare. In real terms, nobody has successfully bred to this line in terms of black type success.

However at Rivercrest Park you will also find Kendel Star (Kenmare), and crossing a Jevington mare coupled with an influence of Martello Towers, you get a strong WA black type line through Avenida Madeiro, Grasspatch Girl, Glory Hunter, Kenysl Bay, and Sheenasaidgray. This cross is punching at times 12 times the expected rate, but the sample pool is relatively small being just WA based.

Outside of this I would make a selection based purely on geography, type, conformation, and price. Best of luck, let me know if I can assist further.

Langfuhr had 9 SW in Australia, with Black Tom being one of the better ones. But he had 68 SW worldwide, so he has the credentials required for success. I think he will be a good fit for many of the broodmares here in WA, including daughters and grand daughters of Scenic, Danehill, Haulpak, and Biscay.

Steve Hoare at Rivercrest Park, has been raving about the Black Tom's everytime I have spoken to him about the farm. So hopefully he can throw some nice types that will run as 3yo's.

Which Stallions wouldn't ? Any Son or Grandson of Danehill if you sent a Danehill line mare to them.

I could not agree with the creditability, try to partner more along the business of this expensive alternative providing the opening bid works within your personality

Black Tom! Are you guys crazy. He got beaten in a maiden at Pinjarra by Thermo King! Send him up here to me in Vietnam, my water buffalo needs a spell & I've got rice paddies that need ploughing. Black Tom, ha, you guys .

Thanks for the encouragement Colonel still there are no rules at times wouldnt surprise me at all if he threw a couple of descent horses finding those few is the hard thing.

That's what happens to a man after a while up here. You get mean, real mean.

You might want to be careful with that mare. The family has a history of producing bleeders. Make sure you are not crossing to other lines with similar issues.

Hi to all you breeders any suggestions for a mare Montana's Secret i am just running out of time and she needs a stallion I went to a workshop with G1 goldmine but its so confusing
  • jesteressjesteress    103 posts
Thought there was only small amount of evidence bleeding is hereditary?
BT might fix it anyway but prob only a breed to race option at this stage

Silks, I have matched your mare to every significant family of Stallions standing in WA and am happy to provide you with the results. I'm pretty sure we spoke at the G1 evenings. I will post it here a bit later this evening but for now I am going to walk the dog in the rain. Damien

Would Black Tom have 2yr olds by now?
I'd like to see some pictures of his off spring because I've only ever heard really good things.

I think they are at least 3yo now maybe older. Which would be disappointing because where  are they? I for one keep waiting to see one produced to get an idea of their type, which ive heard is good. But surely the best form of advertisement is to get them out there!
