If nothing goes on from those first 5 or 6 across the line in both the KK and Sires Produce, then you know that that year was weak and lacking in depth. Currently I think the crop is mediocre with the real genuine horses of the 2yo season and the 3yo season to follow, as having not clearly identified themselves at this point.
Last year clearly demonstrated this.
Only 1 has won a race as a 3 yr old.
IMHO the quality of the race should be judged on the day as the likelihood of these immature babies having any career at all beyond the day is pretty slim.

Importantly Camporella who ran third went on to win the Sires, Balmont Girl ran 4th and is now probably the best filly in the State as a 3yo, and Ihtsahymn ran 6th and will win HOTY honors in WA as a 3yo and they were nowhere to be seen in the KK.
So I think it was a decent enough crop. The current 2yo's haven't produced a dominant horse at this stage and the race is wide open. This year the Sires Produce will throw up another horse or two, and I still think it is too early to say where they lie in quality.
I fully support your theory when it comes to Railway Stakes. That quality should be assessed on the day, but with babies I think you need two seasons.
Same goes for Golden Slippers.

Matures a bit earlier than the rest and is a class above the others. The others catch up and it a lot of cases overtake the standout 2 year old.
Just my thoughts, to me that does not diminish its class advantage over the rest on the day as a 2 year old.
Its all very subjective and each persons own thoughts on the matter I suppose :)

He hasn't won that convincingly but i see he ran a faster time & last sectional than Fulds Bet and gets in better at the weights. So he's definitely not without a chance
