Belmont 26/8/20

West Australian Racing
R1- BILLY RAY is two from two at the trials and looks like making a real race horse. So far in his career he has made everything he has done look effortless against horses that are now proven. Draws one in a six horse field and has the earlier speed to hold leaders back which should be a nice option with the cutaway at his disposal. Very short but deserves to be against what looks moderate opposition.

R2- TRADE MASTER is becoming costly to follow but somehow ends up in an easier race every start. This looks his chance backing up from a low draw and dropping to 1400. Has put in some of his better runs off seven days and form behind Great Waters and Zalaah should be able to stand up here. He can use his gate to sit close and take the cutaway when it comes which he may appreciate after grinding away in the straight in recent starts.

R3- JUST UNDER has been hitting the line strongly this campaign like a horse who wants further and finally gets that. Is getting to 2200 off the back of a nice maiden win which has already produced a winner and finds himself in a very modest class one. Barrier three should allow him to find a spot behind whoever decides to take up the running and looks another horse that could be aided by the cutaway.

R4- STARTRADE has continued to get better and better this preparation and looks capable of elevating further. Had trialled up nicely before a big run from near last over 1000m. Followed that up with a dominant win last start when wide throughout and should only get better up to 1200 here. Maps similarly here but is a big horse who may appreciate running room and if he can continue like he has been goes close.

R5- MORE ACES hasn’t won for a while but gets a nice chance to change that fresh. Has been competitive all throughout his career mostly in much stronger races than this and still looks to have spring in his step. He finished within a length of Stageman in 70+ grade first up last prep over this track/trip and should get a similar run just off the speed. If he can bring that form to this which his trial indicates he can he’ll be hard to beat.

R6- Best Bet: OHBEEH has been hindered by sitting at his last two starts but now finds a race he can lead in. Led them a merry dance three back when winning with authority before a luckless run two back and a pass run in Saturday grade last start. Comes back to a class three here and looks well placed after the 3kg claim. If Ramoly can get him away cleanly he should be able to lead and roll which is just how he likes it.

R7- SANS LE SOU returned a different horse when winning well first up. Showed a real turn of foot to take a gap and get away from her rivals where in previous her in previous campaign she was only able to grind away to the line. Sticks to 1400 which looks her ideal trip and in a race with limited tempo can roll forward to sit outside the leader. Stays in the same grade but should be open to improvement second up against her own sex.

Race1 - Eliminate, im liking the looks of these Playing God horses. The trial was sound, and I think the winner and 3rd in that trial are horses to follow also.
Obviously Billy will be hard to beat, but like Eliminate as a solid place bet.

Race6 - Leading Man, knocking on the door, should be there about again at an e/w price

:D See Now i'm half keen too..

I have a plan to get 7 legs so in case Billy Ray runs 2nd i've used my superpick and had 50 on it..then hopefully the 70 return(which drops to $23 due to my triple pick)goes on to :-

    2/5
    3/2
    4/2
5/1,4,11 open as this race i'm taking 3 chances
    6/1
    7/1

R3 Each way Rio Rogue hope Haggerty has put enough work into this galloper he can run a race if so.

R4 So Sway represents a great bet, up to 1200 looks suitable.

R5 I reckon Nobelium can run a cracker, he ran along 2 back and stuck to the task well the double figure odds appeal. An honourable mention to Illustrious Tycoon also.

I know Zaalah is easy in the early betting($2.1-2.7) but I thought it would be even better over further than the 1700m last start. Was on the bridle the whole way and was headed by the runner up last start before kicking back on the line, winning in a photo finish. Maiden to class 1 is always a reservation but that's the same case with a few of those in the market.

    a) remember jarrod has only had a handful of rides. plus they are 2nd or 3rd grade horses who will probably be sold at bobs next disposal sale.

    b) no bootscootin' trk, did not even listen to the race and even as i write i do not know the result..they take their time on CRIS. i gather it torpedoed a few multis. its a bugger when you fall at the first hurdle...

That”s completely wrong, this is when Bob brings out his A graders as 3yo. Windstorm, Superstorm, Perfect Jewel etc all debuted at the backend of the Belmont season to be cherry ripe for the Ascot season

Started $5 "they" knew mate..she wasn't bad, probably half a run short..and is inexperienced so next time looks a bet.

talking of "they", no mention these days of those mythical punters in the east successfully pillaging our prices. :-?

Yes, but 'they' loaded up on the fav who was 1/14 before today and just ran 2nd for the 4th time in a row. I don't really pay as much attention to prices shifting in or out anymore.

Winner was well backed too..but agree i couldn't have backed the runner up.

R4 winner was well backed too, the original fav went like a crab and almost literally too when Derrick hooked it left to get a run..plodded only.
