Northam Meeting Cancelled news

Northam Meeting Cancelled

Perth Turf Talk | Industry Notices | Thu 11 August, 2011

RWWA Stewards, Northam Race Club Officials and a representative of the WA Jockeys’ Association today conducted an inspection of a section of track near the 425 metres at the Northam Race Club.

This area, approximately 4 metres in width, was found to be unsuitable for racing due to it retaining excessive water as a result of it not draining effectively.

It is now the intention of the Northam Race Club to consult with engineers and the Manager of the Curators’ Assistance Program, Mr G Murphy immediately to identify the reasons for this area not draining resulting in it becoming waterlogged and then have remedial work undertaken to address this problem.

Further notice regarding the progress of this work will be advised and immediate future racing dates at the Northam Race Club will then be determined accordingly.

RWWA and Perth Racing will now implement a contingency plan to minimise the disruption to stakeholders resulting from the Northam cancellation.

Races 6 and 7 from the Northam meeting have now been added to Saturday’s Belmont Park programme to create a nine event card. These two races were originally scheduled at last week’s abandoned Northam meeting.

An additional meeting has been scheduled at Belmont Park on Monday, 15 August with the remaining 8 races. The meeting will be run as a Northam at Belmont Park meeting, accordingly provincial apprentice claims will apply and the meeting will not count towards the metropolitan premierships.

Fields for all races remain unaltered.

The addition of a race meeting on Monday, 15 August has necessitated the barrier trials at Belmont Park scheduled for this day to be re-scheduled to Lark Hill on Tuesday,16 August 2011.

Isnt the point based NR system with its barrier draw conditions a handicapping system? I mean highest rated horses drawing worse off seems like a handicap
