Belmont Preview 13th August

Gary Wright | Metropolitan Racing | Fri 12 August, 2011

The Belmont card has had some substance added to it today with two of the postponed Northam races from Thursday to be run as the first two races, its a race meeting with a few open races, but also a few races with only a couple of main chances in the middle of the days racing.

Race 1- Builders/Owners Incentive Maiden- 1600 metres

Crispiano was the tip in a similar race last week that ended up being abandoned, so I will forgive his last start failure and stick with him today. Hopefully the wide barrier at the 1600m start at Belmont will be overcome and if so, he looms as the testing material here. Dangers are a plenty in one of the open races on the programme, with Big Hope, the Kersley trained duo of Amreeka and The Cowboy, as well as Daneclicked and possibly Handel’s Messiah, who should be at nice odds in line for the novelties.

Numbers- 3-2-9-4
Suggested Bet- 3- Crispiano- Each Way

Race 2- Perth Racing Members Handicap- 1000metres

Rich Ken was due to make his first trip up to Northam at last weeks and Thursdays abandoned meeting and I was going to tip him in those races, so back at Belmont, from a nice draw and with the services of Paul Harvey on board he looks a good winning chance in this race, especially on the back of a last start fourth at this track in much stronger company. He has been scratched from a later race on the programme to run in this event which may be a good pointer also. Ibrahimovic may prove to be the main danger here, with Walk By My Side and Twilight Hero as major players in this race.

Numbers- 2-4-9-5
Suggested Bet- 2- Rich Ken- Win

Race 3- tabtouch.mobi Handicap- 1200metres

A small field in this race but will give Avante another chance here, after it disappointed slightly last start. Kyra Yuill hops back on board and she has a superb record on this Hurricane Sky mare, and this race isn’t overly strong. I’m Here to Win with its good first up record might be the hardest to beat in this, then Spitfire Ace, who ran an improved race last start and Secret Enigma for the novelties.

Numbers- 3-5-1-8
Suggested Bet- 3- Avante- Win

Race 4- Ian Norton Memorial Handicap- 1400 metres

This is one of those open races on the programme where it’s difficult to predict with any certainty who might come out on top. I will go with Mickey Drippin as I feel the 1400 metres might suit him better than the shorter distances he has been running over of late. This horse was pretty promising as a youngster and probably hasn’t quite lived up to his potential, but certainly gets his chance in this race to notch another victory. Dangers are a plenty in a very open race though, with Galoubay an impressive first up winner on Jul 25, Moneghetti in extremely consistent form as is Nomad.

Numbers- 3-2-4-7
Suggested Bet- 3- Mickey Drippin- Each Way

Race 5- Westspeed 3yo Handicap- 1400 metres

Pattie Me Lass looms as one of the days best bets as long as she can overcome a rise in weight on her last few starts and I will back her to do so. Last start she overcame a good filly in Flying Affair from a wide draw and she should really go on with it in this race. Flag Officer looks the main danger with his impressive form line, but the draw doesn’t help his chances of upsetting Pattie. Assertive Heights and Lethal Jones could be the next best in this race.

Numbers- 2-1-4-8
Suggested Bet- 2- Pattie Me Lass- Win

Race 6- Westspeed Stayers Bonus Handicap- 2000metres

Possibly the best race of the day here with some good form exposed, we don’t often say that about distance races but this is a welcome exception. Kincaple is headed for the Kalgoorlie Cup and on the strength of its last two starts should win this race. He came back in distance to 1600 metres last weekend, and flew home to almost catch the in form Trustee Brown on the line, so the extra 400 metres today should suit it down to the ground. Monumental is also a promising stayer in the making and will prove to be the main danger in this along with View The Stars, the Roberts Stakes winner from last season, who ran a nice second last start. Hibernian and Offer Me Jewels add real substance to this race also.

Numbers- 3-7-1-2
Suggested Bet- 3- Kincaple- Win

Race 7- racingjobs.com.au Handicap

Our Ol’ Fella and Kerrific match up in this race and should fight out the finish, but will go with the Old Fella to get home once again today. As long as he doesn’t get too far out of his ground, he should be able to unleash his good finishing spurt to get the money, he is still racing as well as ever even after a long preparation, and should prove a nice pick up ride for Paul Harvey. Kerrific should run the quinella but he does rise 4kgs on his last win and that may prove decisive in the end. The ever consistent Ten Aces and last weeks winner Kens Double may provide the quartet in this event, but cant see either of them upsetting the big two players in this.

Numbers- 3-1-6-2
Suggested Bet- 3- Our Ol’ Fella- 1- Kerrific Quinella

Race 8- perthracing.com.au Handicap- 1600 metres

Certainly one of the more open races of the day, and will go with Risktaker here at what will probably be good each way odds, this horse is holding her form well and will appreciate the 3kgs allowance for apprentice Jayce Buckley. The dangers certainly appear to be the more seasoned Saturday performers Avonmore Terrace, back to a distance more to its liking here, and Endless Time, but catching those horse on winning days can be difficult. Mossroy adds a little interest also in this, a nice young up and coming horse.

Numbers- 2-3-4-15
Suggested Bet- 2- Risktaker- Each Way

Race 9- Call TAB to bet 132 369 Handicap- 1200 metres

Its not very often we can have a bet in the last race with a lot of confidence, but I think we can go with Like An Eagle here, he came with a withering burst at his last start to get the money and is a most impressive up and coming horse. If William Pike can overcome an awkward draw with his mount I think it will end the day on a nice note for favourite backers. Other chances for the last leg of the quaddie would appear to be the consistent Grand Platz who ran a nice race last start and has the claim for promising apprentice Michael Grantham, Incoherent to be ridden by Damien Lane, enjoying a visit back to WA at the moment, and a roughie may be Pribyl, who has been running on nicely in its races.

Numbers- 10-3-1-14
Suggested Bet- 10 Like An Eagle- Win

Best Bets-    Race 5 No 2           Pattie Me Lass
                    Race 6 No 3           Kincaple
Race 9 No 10         Like an Eagle

Isnt the point based NR system with its barrier draw conditions a handicapping system? I mean highest rated horses drawing worse off seems like a handicap
