RWWA Stewards yesterday concluded the inquiry into the conduct of Jockey Grant Lemos at the Broome Cup race meeting held on 13 August 2011, prior to the running of Race 1. Jockey Grant Lemos was requested to provide a routine urine sample which led to questioning with respect to the sample provided and his subsequent conduct which resulted in him being replaced from his mounts for that day and being stood down pursuant to LR10 until the completion of the inquiry.

At the previous Stewards hearing on Monday, 29 August 2011 Jockey Grant Lemos was charged as follows:

Under AR83(a) for misconduct in that he used loud and abusive language in the vicinity of the Stewards Room.

Under AR175(t) for obstructing the Stewards in the exercise of their powers by taking without consent, items namely a beaker containing a volume of urine, a heat pack and a murine bottle seized by the Stewards in relation to a urine test taken from him.
On 29 August 2011 Mr Lemos pleaded guilty to the charge under AR83(a), requested and was granted an adjournment to seek legal advice on the other two charges.

At today's hearing Mr Lemos pleaded guilty to all charges.

The Stewards, in consideration of penalty took into account Mr Lemos's:

Guilty pleas and personal circumstances.
The seriousness of these charges and the circumstances of this incident in that it was of the most severe category to come before the Stewards Panel.
After consideration the following penalties were handed down.
