The Reverend spoils the party news

The Reverend spoils the party

| Mon 12 September, 2011

Reverend Lovejoy stopped the Kincaple march onto the $100k Bucks Off Liquor triple bonus at Kalgoorlie yesterday, defeating Mark Reed and Daniel Staeck by a nose in a nailbiter.

Staeck was a little unlucky, jumping well with the field, then having to snag back to second last rather than being caught three wide.

The out of form Kasabian led them up with Reverend Lovejoy in tow, skipping away at the top of the straight and dragging the Reverend with him.

Second favourite Amelia's Dancer was buried back on the fence, getting the cushy run but when Reverend Lovejoy kicked away, he looked to have an unassailable lead.

Kincaple knuckled down for the fight and made a late lunge at the Reverend, but missed by the narrowest of margins, with Battle Emblem back in third and putting in a nice Kalgoorlie Cup preview.

Reverend Lovejoy only recently returned from Melbourne where he had two solid campaigns for David Hayes, winning just once in his first campaign, a mile race at Caulfield by protest.

Before that, his last wins were in the 2009 Boulder and Coolgardie Cups for Durrant, beating Gondorff in both.

Reverend Lovejoy will now most likely head to the Hannan's Handicap on Wednesday.

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
