Tips for Prince of Wales Stakes Day
Race 1:
Miss Solis should lead up the two year olds and win again based on her first up effort. Fath Six was a good trail for Daniel Pearce and Coventry to Rio, Fuddle De Duddle and Park Lane also have claims. Its not a race you could have too much idea about so we'll leave it alone. Miss Solis, Fuddle De Duddle and Coventry to Rio.
No Bet.
Race 2:
The three year olds on the other hand will contest a great little race. Ron's Call is all the rage and has already been backed in from a price I considered to be under the odds. He smashed Dark Miss at Northam, then had every hope in topping Irma La Dane last time out. Perhaps he's better leading or breezing, but purely on face value, that run doesn't warrant him being so short in this. Lord Hatras won convincingly at Pinjarra, and while that form is a little hard to follow, he did it in the hardest part of the track to win from. My Bonny Lad had huge wraps when beating Flying Affair back in the winter. He was put away after that to contest the bigger races. Durrant also had a massive opinion of the horse when he had it. Big Clint fits the same description after heading straight for Melbourne after winning two trials. Oz Racing's Venetian Prince was also a good run behind Ron's Call, but is a get back horse and will need luck. Big Clint, My Bonny Lad, Ron's Call.
No Bet.
Race 3:
I found this a really tough race to assess. Mio Fratello showed nothing of his good form last campaign, disappointing when 6th first up. He does have a good fresh record too, so there is no confidence here. Galinba Blast may end up leading again after his success at Northam. Rosie Rocket surely must go forward after failing badly back in the field last time out? Kenbon has improved out of sight at his last two and this looks a good race for him now, provided there is a little bit of pace on. Pike should take off at the right time and he has the closing sectional to account for these. Kenbon, Mio Fratello, Rosie Rocket.
No Bet
Race 4:
Another tough race where any of a number could lead, and determine the race. Gum Nut Guru, Kens Double, Great'n'Grey and Pintada Prince can all go forward, although none is a genuine leader. Western Jewel should have nearly won second up after being blocked in the straight and finishing on when it was all over. Great'n'grey's form is faultless although he was ridden the best at his last start clash with Gum Nut Guru, Kens Double and Western Jewel. Pintada Prince failed leading and with Knuckey aboard, I believe will sit here and go much better. Tipping Gum Nut Guru to lead or breeze and this should suit after sitting wide at his last 3 starts. Western Jewel and Great'n'grey for the minors.
Suggested Bet: Each way Gum Nut Guru.
Race 5:
Senhor Da Gama was ridden aggressively by Carbery last start, taking on the leader before straightening and outstaying the opposition. The time was relatively fast, so the run was good, even though it didn't look impressive on face value. Fortescue Flyer should also go forward and ran a good race behind Kenbon, facing the breeze in fast time. These two going forward will suit Come Party, whose last two runs have been great. He is depending on a decent pace up front, but I think the 1800m suits perfectly. Jappaloop is backing up after an impressive win last week, I'll be taking him on again. Mr Moet had no luck at all, finishing off well behind the placegetters last week. Senhor Da Gama, Come Party, Mr Moet.
Suggested bet: Senhor Da Gama each way.
Race 6:
The class in this race is Ginsberg. His last run was shocking, but he never really travelled into the race and just whacked away in the straight. With the Pontiff back on this week, Im prepared to forgive him that bad run. Monaco Prince was and incredible run at Geraldton first up. He was tailed off before almost winning without the use of the whip while the girl was just trying to steer him. With Westriver Kevydon setting a good clip in front, Monaco Prince is a definite sneaky here. The Widder has had little luck with Pike in the saddle, particularly two starts ago when he should have been beating Sky Magic. Campbell goes on but doesn't get the best draw. Tough to win for him from near on last I feel. Sky Magic has improved her last two, as did Athena's Me Mum. Forget the last race that was run in monsoonal rain behind Soonest. Ginsberg, Westriver Kevydon, Monaco Prince.
Suggested Bet: Ginsberg each way, save on Monaco Prince
Race 7:
See Prince of Wales preview.
Tips: Power Princess, Waratah's Secret, Grand Nirvana
Suggested Bet: Power Princess each way.
Race 8:
An excellent race to finish the day with a ton of speed from The Entrourage, Timely Queen, Freetime and Celebration Girl. Timely Queen will probably lead by virtue of the fact she is very hard to hold when fresh. Freetime will be looking to sit with multiple gear changes, but I don't like Chloe's chances of restraining here. He's just a tough ride and he has self destructed too many times. One just hopes he doesn't interfere with too many runners. Im looking for the swoopers in Noname City and Jay Jay Makster. Noname City was unlucky not to topple All Friared Up last campaign under similar conditions while Jay Jay Makster is capable of consistently running sub 34 sectionals. The Entourage can fill the placings provided he gets some cover, which is somewhat doubtful with Hill drawn 12. Prefer Celebration Girl in the first two, which she may be, but she did get it easy in that 1000m last time where they battled to break 58secs. Noname City, Jay Jay Makster, The Entourage.
Suggested Bet: Noname City each way, save on Jay Jay Makster.

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
