Tips for Asian Beau Stakes Day - 29th October

Matt Rigby | Metropolitan Racing | Sat 29 October, 2011

Race 1:

It looks a good race for Full Clip to break through in the first. He should once again go forward, the only other pace coming from Gracetown and She's Roy's Gift. Where they sit in running will go a long way to determining this race. Mr Magic over raced stepping up to the 1400m last start and had nothing left in the straight. I'm forgiving that performance, back the the 1000m here, we'll go on his Northam run, which was impressive. In Eden's Honour goes extremely well fresh. Easthope lost him to a degree towards the end of last campaign, but he was up a long time. Gracetown won a race during the winter that I am querying the formlines. La Annais was a decent trial and could figure but I'll be going Full Clip marginally in front of Mr Magic and In Eden's Honour.

Suggested Bet: no bet although Mr Magic and In Eden's Honour are both value at over $6.

Race 2:

Its a tough race by virtue of Cristiano being in the field. We dont even know if he will get into the barriers, let alone how he will run if he does. Pintada Prince has run two out of three good races this campaign. While he had every chance last start in a slowly run mile, I think he'll get that kind of run again here. Come Flirt With Me was a big run behind Devilish Intent last time out. He was second last and wide and made a ton of ground on Devilish Intent, who had every chance. We have to go back to Cristiano's last win, which was his last start back in Feb, to get any indication on how good he is. He sat wide and beat Charmoss, Big Josh and even Veracious whose form has not stacked up so far. Terminado can go forward and give some cheek, especially if allowed to roll. I couldn't be having Reale Fury at all. Pintada Prince, Come Flirt With Me, Cristiano.

No Bet

Race 3:

A race with a stack of speed on paper. The last couple of these that have been run, the actually didnt get along that quickly. I think that will change today. Celebration Girl, Freetime, Gotham City and Centrum should all be going hard. I think Centrum and Freetime will probably end up in the first two. A strong pace should suit Metal Talk, who over races pretty badly. Despite this, he was still able to win several races last campaign. If the pace goes on, I think we'll see another gear or two with Metal Talk today. Even Astar was ordinary first up, but can improve. Celebration Girl has won on the back up before and is racing well. She should box seat. Gotham City is a definite chance here even though second up his effort was pitiful. Dont like Highly Toxic from the barrier. Canardly Miss can run a good race fresh, but she'll be too far back even though she runs a very good sectional. Place chance maybe. Metal Talk, Celebration Girl, Freetime.

Suggested Bet: The $7 Metal Talk was well over the odds, but you may struggle to get $4 now. I think thats still a fair price in this field.

Race 4:

Heavy Roller and Lee Rani should ensure this one is run at a good clip. You could find a way to knock many of these runners. Finger has never won on Lee Rani and she'll be doing it hard outside the leader perhaps. Comme Ci and McScar are racing poorly. Thunderluvn draws wide and takes a substantial step up in grade. Nediyms ruler, although racing well, is drawn off the track and Valoura perhaps is not the horse we thought it might be a year ago. Ima Citinpretty is a very speedy 1000m horse, who we'll forgive the failure at Pinjarra after she missed the start. She can possie up behind the pace here and give a good sight. Southern Comfort should go into novelties. Theres no way she should be 50/1 in this field after she beat Isabella Maree in a similar type race after Isabella had every chance in front. Lee Rani, Ima Citinpretty and Southern Comfort.

Suggested Bet: small each way in Ima Citinpretty and a spec on Southern Comfort.

Race 5:

Its an average looking Asian Beau for mine. Mega Steel should lead and perhaps Megatic can add some pressure with blinkers back on. Luckygray, is a lucky horse. He will box seat again and be extremely hard to beat. I cant go past Mega Steels last run, breezing outside Waratah's Secret in 1.21.45. I dont believe Lucky Gray would be capable of doing that. Tranquility is the clear third best and ran two good races leading up, without threatening. Megatic was woeful first up while Tarzi ran an even race. Tarzi does go much better second up and the 1400m suits. He's th blowout chance for the bookies. Mega Steel, Luckygray, Tranquility.

Suggested Bet: Mega Steel each way and a saver on Tarzi.

Race 6:

The Burgess Queen is an excellent race which will hopefully make up for the Asian Beau. Again, a lot of the best chances are drawn wide, so the first 200m is going to decide many of their fates. Single Spice and Almachino will dash forward and if they get any luck, will be the hardest to beat. Red Hot Sax will box seat and Dark Miss should get a great run from 4 with Pike. Pattie Me Lass will get too far back here. The chances at value are Foo Foo The Snoo, who raced wide first up and kept coming, Voices of Spring and even Ningaloo Blitz (now $31). Single Spice just ran out of condition last time at 1200m and while she'll be up front, she'll have to work from 13 and fitness my be a factor again if they go hard. Tipping here with no confidence, Almachino, Dark Miss, Single Spice. Throw Foo Foo The Snoo, Red Hot Sax, Mendicity and Voices of Spring into novelties.

No bet.

Race 7:

Another race where they should get along up front with Westriver Kevydon and Pin Rouge. Add to that Kens Double and even Volcanic Causeway. Moonlight Bay looks the one to me, drawn well with Pike aboard, she should be midfield with plenty of pace to suit. Knighlike was also a good run first up but the pace will dictate how he goes. The more the better. Brown will need to be crafty on The Tenby Friar. I dont think he will get to the breeze, but if the spread out, he would well slot in one off the fence and justify his short quote. If he gets trapped wide however, the current price is well under the odds. Rosie Rocket and Babieca Noire not without their chances in this either. While I think Last Curtain will need a run or two after a year off the scene, his trial was excellent and im prepared to spec him at 100/1. Moonlight Bay, The Tenby Friar, Knightlike.

Suggested Bet: spec on Last Curtain

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
