Tips for Super Saturday 19th November
It could be a tough day at the office as a punter with ten races on the card, particularly if you get on the wrong foot! We have already reviewed the Winterbottom and Railway in separate previews so we'll cover the rest here.
Race 1:
It looks like the Keeper's Court stakes in the first after two easy wins this campaign for Alan Mathews. While the 1500m race he won last start was a strangely run event where plenty had bad fortune, he showed a blistering turn of foot to leave them standing. Despite being a bit of a knock on that form, I have him clearly on top and he'll box seat here and use his sprint again. The even money means some good value about other runners like Tax A Million, Hartley's Hangover, Mr Pink and Say Stars. I give them all a chance of upsetting. Classic Emblem is the obvious danger on paper while Democratism should get the front with Tax A Million to his outside, they both have claims. Keepers Court, Say Stars and Democratism.
No Bet
Race 2:
Morning Mist will be all the rage here and she probably should be. Her return after a year off the scene was excellent and she'll get a nice run here. Bombora has been backed in early markets and was a great trial. Simon Miller will no doubt improve this horse but he's probably in a different class to the favourite. Thunderluv'n and Success Park also have claims but the favourite should win. If there were an upset, the class is Ginsberg and he has had no luck whatsoever his last two. Azzopardi will have to go back and do something special from the barrier, but the horse has the ability. Morning MIst, Bombora, Thunderluv'n.
No Bet
Race 3:
Pin Rouge and Solsay will ensure this is run at a good clip. Both are best left to run and Pin Rouge is likely to lead with Solsay to his outside. This should set the race up for the outstanding Maschino, who was scintillating in three wins last campaign. Yuill will have to be crafty given she'll be getting well back at Ascot. A slight query on Solsay at the 1400m. He has failed twice at 1300m, but is a stronger horse this time in. Forever Special wasnt suited behind Mavromata in a slowly run race on Cup Day. She can sit closer here and be the hardest to beat. Simplyirresistible can also figure with the good pace up front. Maschino, Forever Special, Simplyirresitible.
Suggested Bet: Maschino at anywhere near $3.
Race 4:
Wolfe Dreams will get the front here and create some pace with Kens Double. He was sadly short of his best in the Lee Steere and McGruddy presumably got the choice and chose Our Ol Fella. Philby looks suited with the drop in weight and Pike aboard. He should box seat and be hard to beat, the only danger being Grey Monarch, who has stepped up to the mark in group 3 company twice this campaign. Bridgestone wasnt close to the good horse we know he is last earlier this campaign. Philby looks a little short here so the value is each way in Grey Monarch. We'll tip Philby, Grey Monarch and Bridgestone.
Suggested Bet: Grey Monarch each way at $5.50 or better.
Race 5:
A great race, but an absolute raffle. Any one of about ten could win it, dependent on the runs they get. I will say that there is a big query on the pace here. Sunrange, Its Judgement Day and Big Josh can all go forward. If Double Barrel is in the position to do so, he may take off at the half way mark to put himself into the race. Outside of those, its difficult to place too much emphasis on the Ascot Gold Cup as it was run in atrocious conditions. Western Jewel failed miserably, while the best runs were probably Manila I Scream and Peg's Pride. Malaika, Gum Nut Guru, Knightlike and Double Barrel had no luck. That marvel Gum Nut Guru has his first test over the 2100m, but his run two starts ago suggests he'll stay. Perhaps he's headed for the Perth Cup? I'll forgive Western Jewel, Knightlike for second and Manila I Scream.
No bet
Race 6:
The Jungle Mist will give us a race with good pace. Dante's Diamond and Ima Citinpretty will ensure that. Premardal may even press forward but Harvey is likely to want to slot in with the big weight. I'd think the swoopers will chime in late here with Ima Citinpretty going hard and most likely struggling with the 1200m. Answers Are, Moonlight Bay, Bontiara and Sweet Serenity can all play a part in the finish. Sweet Serenity has a habit of drifting out a little far and Moonlight Bay could be in the same boat. If they can possie up midfield, they would be the tips. Dante's Diamond is a big chance, particularly if Ima Citinpretty tears away leaving her trailing. The have bet a huge price Desire Path after winning easily at Northam and having no luck Cup Day. Sweet Serenity, Moonlight Bay, Dante's Diamond.
Suggested Bet: Small each way Desire Path at $61 or better.
Race 7:
Ron's Call was impressive in beating King Saul and Shining Knight at their last outing. They are the obvious dangers. He got all the favours that day, but I'm not sure the margin would have been a lot different had he not? Blinkers go on King Saul and up to the mile, I always think thats a little dangerous. Shining Knight however will appreciate the mile for sure. Dont like anything to upset those three although Ningaloo Blitz had no luck in the Champion Fillies and could surprise with a place. Ron's Call to sit handy and be too strong, Shining Knight, King Saul.
Suggested Bet: Ron's Call if they bet anywhere near $2.50 again.
Race 8:
See Railway Stakes Preview.
Ranger, Waratah's Secret, Luckygray.
Suggested Bet: Waratah's Secret each way at around $15.
Race 9:
See Winterbottom Preview.
Ortensia, Rarefied, Grand Nirvana.
Suggested Bet: Rarefied each way.
Race 10:
If you're in front coming to the last, head off to the Potbelleez because this is one of the harder races for the day. The Entrourage has stepped up to group company and acquitted himself well, going down just 2 lengths in the Colonel Reeves. He's only a small chap and the 58.5kg could be the deal breaker here. Expect him to be right in the finish gutsing it out though. Gotham City did the work and overpowered Highly Toxic in their last clash. Expect them to be up front again in this. With those three setting a good clip up front, swoopers such as The Corporation (although disappointing last start), Cavallo Pazzo (who might get a good camp on the leaders), Noname City, Latorio, The Regulator and Recode to figure. I know I've mentioned them all, but its a really hard race. Im going to go wide, even silly and tip The Regulator, who had good winter form, even though Noske may have had the choice to ride. Latoria and The Entourage for the placings.
Suggested Bet: The Regulator each way at anywhere near $20.

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
