Tips for Kingston Town Stakes Day 3rd December
Its another massive day of racing right on the heels of Super Saturday. With main features The Aquanita, JRA Trophy, Jungle Mist, AJ Scahill and Kingston Town, racing fans should be salivating.
Race 1:
Its a small field with decent pace from the likes of Paratonnerre, De Latte and Octalert. Riobresa was impressive after a short break, smashing his midweek field with ease. De Latte has big wraps but has hardly done a thing since winning his maiden. His trial was average and I couldnt tip him. Octalert raced much more tractably at Pinjarra and if she settles is a chance to upset Riobresa. La Annais was a good run, although outclassed last start while Exclusive Honour has had his chances, but stacks up well this company. Riobresa, La Annais and Octalert.
Suggested Bet: Riobresa at $2.50 or better and save on Octalert at $31.
Race 2:
Good pace in this race from Keenelander, Godulfi and Lisetta. The latter will probably lead, but has disappointed at her last two. Thunderluvn may well go forward again and is in danger of being trapped wide. For that reason, as favourite, he's a risk. Should he go forward, the race will be set up for the backmarkers like Recode, Go Buster, Du Printemps and Metalman. Recode performs at his very best for Harvey who seems to hold him up until the last minute. The 59kg is a concern, but he'll be right in this after having no luck his last two. Catlantic returned with an impressive win in fast time in the midweeks. He'll get the pie run here and is going to be the one to run over at some stage. Metalman has claims but will have to go back and Godulfi should get a good run too. Its a tough race that should be wide in the market. Recode, Catlantic, Godulfi.
No bet.
Race 3:
Im pretty confident here that the Guineas and even Champion Fillies form is stronger than the other formlines here. Fort Courage was a huge run in the Guineas, tramping wide and coming strongly on the line. The 1800m looks like it will suit him perfectly. Ningaloo Blitz has had no luck her past two runs and would have finished amongst them in the same race. Allez Marseilles was only getting warm in the Champion Fillies over 1600m and could be another Edwards knockout at this trip. Im knocking the form out of Final Cut, Keepers Court and Arete races, although none of them have really put a foot wrong. First Flight is a definite hope on his Guineas run, but the concern is the lack of pace here and Yuill will rider him cold. The pace might be Lord Hatras and Keepers Court, but a big question mark for me. Ningaloo Blitz, Fort Courage, Allez Marseilles.
Suggested bet: Fort Courage each way at $8 and spec on Allez Marseilles at $17.
Race 4:
This is a speedy lot out to win just $47,500 for a cup (and trophy) race, less than a normal Saturday stake? Tons of pace from The Entourage, Grand Jardin, Latoria, Rogano and Saytorio. Im going to stick my neck out and knock the impressively bred Rogano here. His trial was excellent and he obviously has plans for a career as a stallion, but his form over in NSW was patchy. He seems a speedy type who may easily cave in under pressure. He gave nothing with pacifiers at his last outing but they are not his normal gear and are removed here. The impressive 950m trial at Lark Hill does not surprise but I think pressure here will see him out. I cant see any reason they wont want to lead with Latoria again. She was just too good for them last time doing the same. The Entourage stumbled that day and just couldnt bridge the gap with 58kg, but he meets Latoria 2kg better here and will probalby sit outside her. Marmaa had some good form in decent company in Melbourne. That kind of form stacks up well in Perth. He's value at $17. Nollamara trialed well twice and was not put under much pressure. With 18 months off, I'd prefer to see hinm at this stage. Saytorio had absolutely no luck in his winter campaign. He sat wide in all of his runs, except when he was stepped up to the unsuitable 1400m. If he sits wide with cover here, he can upset them. I'll tip him to upset: Saytorio, Latoria, The Entourage.
No bet
Race 5:
It was the New Spice of old last start, dashing forward and breaking their hearts in the Tatts Cup last start. He did run third in a Kingston Town to Megatic in his three year old season after adopting the same tactics. Unless that was a flash in the pan, he'll be very hard to beat here again with little other pace. Veracious will go forward and possibly Big Josh. The rest pretty much all came out of the same race and had their chances to catch him. Peg's Pride finished closest after sitting 1x1. Miss Tipsy Topsy comes to the race from a different path and she has been crunched into favouritism. She has undeniable claims after toughing it out in an unsuitably run race last weekend. Knightlike and Western Jewel also have claims here but I prefer the latter of the Peter's pair. New Spice, Miss tipsy Topsy, Western Jewel.
Suggested bet: New SPice at double figures is great value.
Race 6:
This is a complete raffle. Morning Mist will start the favourite but is a huge risk for mine drawn wide and having had the pie run at her last two. She prevailed over Thunderluvn, who did all the work last time out. A few will get back and be rocketing home here such as Canardly Miss, Elle Choisit, Simplyirresistible, Svara, Sweet Serenity and even Forever Special. Premardal I feel will go back with blinkers removed and the wide barrier. Her run was ok in the Jungle Mist and she could surprise here ridden with a sit. Even Astar will get the front with no pressure, but she got that last time and was overpowered. I just dont think she has returned anywhere near her best. Theres no way you could attack this race with anything other than a dart. My guesses are (Premardal, Canardly Miss and Sweet Serenity) bracketed!
Suggested bet; take a tri or a quartet and go wide.
Race 7:
See Kingston Town Preview.
Ranger, Luckygray, King Saul (throw Battle Emblem and Hadabeclorka into novelties).
Race 8:
See Scahill Preview.
Grand Nirvana, Waratah's Secret, Elusvie Touch.
Suggested Bet: Grand Nirvana each way and save on Elusive Touch at double figures.
Race 9:
Another very wide open affair with good pace via Dante's Diamond, Cobble Lane, Zip Code and Centrum. Caves Road is a very smart galloper but has no real fresh form. The trial was ok but he was shaken up where others were not. At $2.40 he is a real risk for me but at some stage I recognize he'll be looking like the winner. Sunsilkin is the big value here. She encountered a problem in the winter with only one start. Before that she raced in the Jungle Dawn and the Jungle Mist, racing wide in both. Her third to Power Princess in the latter was outstanding and should she reproduce that, she wins this race. Cavallo Pazzo was a fair run first up, coming from well back but never looking likely to win. The Regulator and The Corporation were terrible runs last time out and couldnt recommend either. Cobble Lane is yet to be ridden to his strengths at any run this campaign. He needs to lead and roll along and showed that when they sprinted away from him off a slow pace last week, only to fight back and be beaten a bit over a length. Centrum will get a good run here, but funnily enough, that probably wont suit him. He likes to do work! Dante's Diamond will get third the fence and be very hard to beat should Caves Road not come up. We'll go wide, Sunsilkin, Caves Road, Dante's Diamond.
Suggested Bet: Sunsilkin each way at the $17 available.

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
