Maschino the Machine!
Maschino stamped himself as one of WA's most exciting prospects when he destroyed a handy bunch of up-and-comers in the Mary McGinns Best Mum Ever Handicap over 1400m on Saturday.
The connections of a few of his rivals fancied their chances on Saturday, particularly due to Maschino's racing pattern....a get back type who needs a little luck in running.
By race seven however, the pattern of the day was well skewed towards the back markers and it became evident that all Kyra Yuill needed to do was hook him to the outside and the job would be done. That she did, with a minimum of "cuteness" she takced on to the moving line then hooked him out wide and he produced a finish not seen in WA since the halcyon days of Marasco. Marasco / Maschino....possibly a fair comparison, at least in style. Maschino has it all to do no doubt, but his early career is probably not too dissimilar from that of the great WA champ.
Maschino rocketed home in 33.94 for the final 600m, the fastest of the day. In doing so, he trounced the Belmont Guineas winner, The Underworld, three times listed placegetter, The Tenby Friar and the up and coming Romp To Fame.
WA certainly has some exciting times ahead with horses like Barakey and Maschino on the menu.
He will now be aimed at the Bunbury Stakes in March according to trainer Graham Yuill.

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
