RS Crawford Sprint Preview

Perth Turf Talk | Metropolitan Racing | Thu 15 December, 2011

The Crawford looks a competitive little sprint race which was won last year by Grand Jardin, who seems a shadow of that former horse.

The top four certainly look to have this race all wrapped up with Werd probably getting the front and back to his pet journey of 1000m. The 1200m and the 58.5kg in the Winterbottom just saw him out and he will get a little weight relief here back to the 57kg.

Shock Value sat three wide without cover in the Colonel Reeves, where he met both Werd and Avante, only going down 2 1/4 lengths. That was a great run after also missing the start and he meets both Werd and Avante better at the weights. He does have some tricks however and may need luck again from the barrier.

All Friared Up has had problems this time in. She missed her start in the Winterbottom due to hoof issues and comes back to the 1000m after finding them a little too nippy in the Colonel Reeves over 1100m. The 1000m may be just a tad too short for her unless they go hard up front.

Avante was handed the Colonel Reeves on platter when they went hard up front. She still did the job however but comes off the minimum here to meet them substantially worse off at the weights. Her form usually tapers a little as she goes through her campaign aswell.

The only way I can see Grand Jardin, Henry De Horse and Highly Toxic figuring in this race is by creating up front pressure. Neither way can they win, but they still could affect the outcome of this.

Marmaa was wide and had no luck first up, he's a sneaky place chance at what are big odds now, as is Sunsilkin, who was a huge run first up but in much lesser company.

Werd, Shock Value, All Friared Up.

Suggested Bet: Werd each way at the $4.80 seems good value.

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
