Gumbys Gossip Sunday 18th December
GUMBYS GOSSIP- Bunbury- 18th December
Sunday racing returns to Bunbury today with an eight event card, the perennial tough maiden races to start the day, with a couple of good races towards the latter part of the programme. Not an easy day to declare winners, but plenty of each way propositions, which should pay quite nicely for punters if they do land one of those.
Race 1- Davey Pumps Maiden- 1100metres
A fairly open race here to commence proceedings, with an early scratching of Black Magic Miss, which may have been the favourite making it a little more difficult. Will go for Just De Lovely now, after two promising maiden runs at this track of late, she should be improved on those efforts, and she did cop a few bumps at her last start as well when finishing a close third to Let's Havachat nine days ago. She just may be a little more forward than a few of these this afternoon. The dangers will come from Riverbend Cowboy, a good first up fourth to Silvercity Girl here on 1st Dec, nicely drawn for his second race assignment and looks to be an early winner for trainer Peter Giadresco. Brocco Debanko will also come into calculations here, he has run a couple of nice races to start his racing career, he got a fair way back last start from a poor barrier, so drawn in five today should run a forward race. The interesting first up runner is Ginger Lynx from the Luciani stable, who hasn't been seen since a trial win back in January, but will no doubt pay to have in novelties in this opening race today and another one racing first up is Destroy, which has had plenty of trials for Jodie Noske in preparation for his first race start, and has performed quite well in those.
Numbers- 9-2-1-10
Suggested Bet- 9- Just De Lovely- Each Way
Race 2- Hunter Industries Maiden- 1100metres
Bromance has been around the place in his four race starts to date and gets his chance to break his maiden status today. His last start when just going down to Silvercity Girl at Pinjarra was full of merit, and providing jockey Kyra Yuill can get him over early from the outside barrier can go close here. He has raced pretty forward in his last two starts but from nice cushy barriers, so hopefully with an early turn of foot he can cross today and break through. I think Duel Attack represents the main opposition, judged on a nice first up third here on Dec 4, and a nice draw at the tough 1100metre start for the Parnham stable. Others that will be in the firing line will be Mactora, who raced in much stronger company at Belmont over the winter months, hasn't been produced in trails this time in, and is drawn poorly, but on the strength of those city runs will come into calculations here. To round out the novelties Im A Natural ran an improved race first up in this new preparation when third in Lets Havachats race here on Dec 9th so must be in with a chance on the strength of that effort.
Numbers- 1-3-2-9
Suggested Bet- 1- Bromance- Each Way
Race 3- Iplex Pipelines Maiden- 1200metres
A quick look at this race is enough to put the shudders through anyone trying to find the winner, a full field of maidens doesn't make the task easy at all. If Cygnet Bay did get a start he would probably be as good as anything else going around in this race, so make sure you check the scratchings to see if he indeed does get a start. Presuming that as the third emergency he doesn't go around then we might look at Princess Finale as an each way proposition here. This Blackfriars mare has been ultra consistent in her latest few efforts, finishing as runner up at three consecutive starts in the winter, then a pretty good first up fifth here to Loiusiana Lady at her first run in this new campaign, she has a nice draw in the capacity field and should give you a good sight for your money. In what is a very open affair Chez Joey may also run a forward race, she has improved markedly since she returned to racing, and did finish second at her last start here at Bunbury a fortnight ago. The Deliverer seems to have also come back well and can be around the place today, and newcomer Be So Ryski is certainly worth keeping an eye on after a nice 2 length trial win down here on Nov 25, also nicely drawn for her race debut today.
Numbers- 9-16-10-14
Suggested Bet- 9- Princess Finale- Each Way
Race 4- Philmac Maiden- 1690metres
Indamani has raced extremely well since he returned to the track this preparation, capped off with a very close second to Grandstand in a similar type race here on Dec 9th, after coming home very well that day, and racing wide over the last half mile, so on that performance I will tip him to break the ice today. His task will be made a little easier with the withdrawal of Red Cheeks which would have also been a major player here, so one of the top chances is out of the equation now. Rock City represents the danger, he featured heavily in the stewards report last start here on Nov 30 and may appreciate the step up to the 1690metres this afternoon, he has been about the place in his last few starts and won't take long to break through, but will go with Indamani in an almost bracket selection here. For a little value in novelties you could possibly throw in Navarone who comes through the same race with Grandstand here nine days ago, having run fourth that day, a much improved effort on previous outings, and Concussion for top hoop William Pike gives the impression she will continue to improve with further racing.
Numbers- 3-2-4-14
Suggested Bet- 3- Indamani- Win
Race 5- Grundfos Pumps Handicap- 1690metres
A smaller field here but the winner does appear to still be well concealed. On an each way basis I will go for Exclusive Glow to bring up a victory for the Pateman stable today. He did run an improved race last start when held up for a run and finishing sixth in Like Wildfires event at the Friday twilight meeting, and if we go back to October 20, bought up a victory at the Bunbury track. He should start at nice each way odds and with William Pike on board, can hopefully overcome a wide draw and give you a sight for your investment today. The obvious danger is Frog Legs on his last effort in the same race last Friday, when he went oh so close to winning for his new trainer, another similar effort will probably see him salute today, but would prefer to see if he can produce the same sort of run consecutively before tipping him outright. Best of the rest will probably be What Do You Know, who ran a nice race at Ascot last start behind Ladysea, and possibly Viarise can add value to novelties also, she is generally about the place in her races.
Numbers- 3-6-4-7
Suggested Bet- 3- Exclusive Glow- Each Way
Race 6- Thinkwater Bunbury Handicap- 1100metres
Sydney Businessman has a pretty good record over the 1100metre scamper, and a pretty good record down here at Bunbury so on the basis of that will tip him to make a successful return to racing today. He did win his last two starts before a stewards enforced spell, and if reproducing those efforts can make a winning return here this afternoon, and give jockey Jeffrey Berry a welcome winner. Spend the Money ran a close up second to Rebel Waltz at Ascot last start, following up on some good form since coming down from the Top End, and given further improvement will be the main danger today, his form is also over these short course distances. Godulfi drops a long way in class from his last start behind Lisetta at Ascot when only beaten 3 ½ lengths that day, and must come into calculations, with Key Hedge the best of the rest here following on from some reasonable efforts at the provincials lately.
Numbers- 2-8-4-5
Suggested Bet- 2- Sydney Businessman- Win
Race 7- Toro Irrigation Handicap-1410metres
Hey Blondie may well end up as one of the better bets on the card today in this race. This Royal Academy mare has shown good potential at six race starts for trainer Peter Giadresco, and she followed up her maiden victory with another nice run when third, only beaten a long neck here on Dec 4. The wide draw at the 1410metres is the only drawback but hopefully with the experience of Troy Turner, she can overcome that obstacle and salute for the punters today. She has raced extremely well in this preparation and theres no reason not to expect a forward showing here this afternoon. Golden Shekels who has also come down from Darwin for Tom Pike and has shown potential in his two WA starts, was only beaten a short neck at his last start here on Dec1, he looms as the main rival to Hey Blondie here. Flirty Beau comes off a maiden victory last start at this track and will be in the firing line again if he can reproduce that effort, with possibly Petticoat Lane the value for novelty punters in what is a terrific race, with a lot of exposed form.
Numbers- 5-3-2-6
Suggested Bet- 5- Hey Blondie- Win
Race 8- Valley Centre Pivots Handicap-2019metres
A good event to close the day here, normally the distance races can lack exposed form, and don't have a lot of depth to them, but this is a pleasant exception. Will opt for Alls Good to continue on his good form today in a race of many chances. He came back from a spell with a nice third here at the Friday twilight meeting, which did follow a trial win a couple of weeks earlier, so hopefully he is fit enough and ready to handle the rise in distance in this. He has been an ultra consistent horse of late, so with that in mind should be able to give each way punters a good sight this afternoon. Kranji Dude does appear to be in this up to his eyeballs also on the back of some good Bunbury form, and if he handles the step up to the 2019m must be a big hope as well. Flirtista is another in the same boat as Kranji Dude, has very nice form at the mile but is up the extra 400metres today, the only question mark against him also. Majestic Boy is the grand old 71start veteran who continues to race consistently, has won two of his last five starts in similar company, and certainly wont be worried by the race distance here, having raced numerous times over it. Traxa is another who is always about the place, but seems to find it hard to get home in first place, but will be popular with novelty punters in this final event of the day.
Numbers- 1-3-2-4
Suggested Bet- 1- Alls Good- Each Way
Best Bet- Race 7 No 5 Hey Blondie
Each Way- Race 2 No 1 Bromance

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
