Gumbys Gossip - Bunbury 12th Jan
GUMBYS GOSSIP- Bunbury- 12th January
Another meeting at Bunbury this afternoon, highlighted by some very good races at the back end of the programme, with some promising horses engaged, hoping to build on some good form over the past few weeks, a couple of tough maiden races early on which is the norm, but all in all a good country racing programme today.
Race 1- Amelia Park Maiden- 1000metres
The promising filly Enshrined could get punters off to a winning start today. Although she hasn't been seen since running third at her only race start in September at Northam, she did start favourite in that race behind the now proven Ron's Call, and she did start the punters elect that day. She has drawn nicely for her return to racing in the pole position so will hopefully keep out of any trouble and start the day well for jockey Glenn Smith, who is having good success in the saddle lately. For the minors possibly Runninon will improve on her first up effort here on New Years day, and can run into the placings at good odds. A couple of promising horses from trials are Full Reign and Teen Idol, who both look to have claims on their recent good trail form, both starting first up in a race this afternoon, and Due Anywhere is another that could sneak a minor placing, he has been well schooled in trials, and ran a better race at his last attempt just before Christmas.
Numbers- 9-12-4-7
Suggested Bet- 9- Enshrined- Win
Race 2- Lion Maiden- 1100metres
An interesting maiden race here with a few good chances, but will go with Aldentae Girl to break through today. This Bletchley Park mare has had the experience of seven race starts now and does look like she is about ready to salute for her first victory. In her first campaign she ran behind some good horses in the likes of Sweet Serenity and Andraczke on city tracks, and returned to racing with a second here on Dec 28 when starting favourite. She should be improved by that run and ready to give a good sight for your investment today. Venetian Queen is also ready to run another good race, has a similar form line to Aldentae Girl with some good minor placings at five of her seven starts to date so represents the danger in this race. One to look out for will be Tellem Ya Dreamin, who is first up in this state for local trainer Michael Lane, whilst his form wasn't overly inspiring in Victoria, he did win a trial by 4 lengths here last week, so on that effort he looks primed to run a good race today. Satellite City may also be one of the novelties, yet to win at thirteen starts, but is a perennial placegetter in these types of races.
Numbers- 7-8-2-1
Suggested Bet- 7- Aldentae Girl- Win
Race 3- Spencer Signs Maiden- 1400metres
A fairly open maiden race here but will go for Dominicus to break through today on the strength of a good first up second to Danzmait here on Dec 22. She ran some promising races just behind the placegetters in her first campaign on country tracks, and being by Blackfriars should relish the step up to 1400metres this afternoon, she is also well drawn in barrier four for top hoop Jason Whiting, all pointers to a forward showing in this race. Plenty of other chances in an open race though with Glacial Energy set to improve at his third race start, however the outside barrier is an obstacle to overcome today, he may just use up a little petrol working over from that barrier. Crystal Maker has run some nice races of late at this track and will no doubt be in the firing line, and also Royal Titan similarly has run just behind the winner at his last few starts and cant be left out of calculations here.
Numbers- 9-2-11-1
Suggested Bet- 9- Dominicus- Each Way
Race 4- Total Telephone Maiden- 1400metres
Another fairly open race here with good value for whoever you end up investing on, however I will tip Red Cheeks to finally win today. She seemed to be working up to a win before the last start aberration here on Dec 28, when the heat of the day may have got to her according to connections, so if we forgive her that run she must be right in calculations here. Her previous start she flashed home to just be beaten a half head behind Transit Reef and if reproducing that form can salute the judge first today. She has drawn the pole in a big field so hopefully can get a nice cushy run in transit for Brad Parnham this afternoon. Plenty of other chances though with Rock City in extremely consistent form without winning lately, in fact has run four seconds at his last five starts, but does have to overcome a horror draw from barrier fourteen today over the tricky 1400metres. Others with claims appear to be Lets Buy Iht who should improve at her third race start after running fourths at her two appearances so far, and Umachine, the ex Victorian who was well backed at his first start in the state at Pinjarra over the straight five, and should improve on that effort today.
Numbers- 9-1-10-2
Suggested Bet- 9- Red Cheeks- Each Way
Race 5- Brunswick Traditional Country Bakery Handicap- 1400metres
A good race upcoming here with plenty of form exposed, and will go with Flying Lord to win today. This Flying Pegasus gelding has been most impressive in his first three race starts running just behind the placegetters on city tracks and certainly gets his chance to salute today. Last start he was only beaten just over 3 lengths by the promising Uncle George on Perth Cup day at Ascot, and is set to give punters a great sight for their money today. Rio Spark has also been in great form lately, last start running third at Ascot to Wicked Game at the Perth Cup meeting, but does have to carry a heavy impost in this race today, and maybe that will be the deciding factor in the end. Sad Eyes finally broke through at her last start after a few attempts in maiden company and should go on with it now, as did Black Magic Miss with a win here in maiden company on New Years day, she also looks a promising type for the Parnham stable going forward. Purse Snatcher and Located also come into this race with winning form and add to what is a very good three year old country event.
Numbers- 6-1-10-8
Suggested Bet- 6- Flying Lord- Win
Race 6- Partners In Racing Handicap- 1200metres
Oh Boy, a maximum field to contest this race and its almost a pin job to try and pinpoint the winner here. I will go for Lady Ladette on an each way basis based on her last two starts where she has finished close up behind Royal Culture and Be So Ryski. She isn't well drawn in barrier fourteen today but if getting a little luck and overcoming that obstacle she might be around the place here. Dangers are a plenty in such an open race, with last start winner Cygnet Bay amongst the best of them, he broke through at his sixth race start at this track on Dec28, and may continue to improve with further racing. Avec Mon Ami ran a good race on debut in this state here a few weeks ago and allowing for further improvement comes right into calculations here also. Princess Finale has run some good races lately culminating in a victory here on Jan1, and Sundance Boy also looks to have claims on his last three starts down here, running into the placings at all three starts, all in all a very tough race here.
Numbers- 8-9-10-14
Suggested Bet- No Bet, go wide in the Quaddie here
Race 7- Rossiter Painting Contractors Handicap- 1100metres
A terrific race here, only a small field to contest but some very good provincial class horses engaged. Sky Balloon, Army Miss and Raging all come out of the same race here on New Years Day so that gives up a leg up with the form for this race. Sky Balloon beat home Army Miss by 1 ½ lengths that day and whilst he meets her 1kg worse from that day, the 60kgs that Army Miss has to carry here makes it difficult to see her turning the tables. Sky Balloon had been in most impressive form prior to that run at Bunbury with three wins from her previous four starts, the only blemish came when she got too far back and couldn't obtain a run at Ascot on Dec21, so we must stick with her to continue on this rich vein of form today. Army Miss may again prove to be the main danger, she has raced ultra consistently for quite a while now, with the promising Le Sacre another with good chances here on the strength of her easy wins at her last two starts, up in class today but she does look like she will still pack a punch at the end of this event. Next best for novelty punters may be Raging who ran third in the New Years Day race after coming from well back that day, the extra 100metres here will suit him.
Numbers- 6-1-3-5
Suggested Bet- 6- Sky Balloon- Win
Race 8- South West Autumn Racing Carnival Handicap- 1675metres
The distance event of the day has also brought together a field of promising horses and this should also be a good contest to end the day. Sea God won over this distance at only his second race start here on Jan 1 so the 1675metres wont be any problems for this Painted Black gelding this afternoon, and will tip him to win on the strength of that factor. Just A Noble has also been impressive in his first three race starts being placed in all of those, steps up to the 1675m today and has drawn poorly, but is bred to run out a strong mile so keep a watch on him also. Scotland Street was most impressive winning his maiden over the 1600m at Pinjarra Park on Boxing day and must come strongly into calculations also, he had been racing quite well at Belmont and Ascot previously and looks to have some ability. Best of the rest is probably Mc are, he ran a nice race last start when only beaten a long head at Pinjarra on Boxing Day, so keep him in mind for the novelties, as well as Deportment, first up today but does have a good record when resuming.
Numbers- 2-3-7-4
Suggested Bet- 2- Sea God- Win
Best Bet- Race 1 No 9 Enshrined - Win
Each Way- Race 7 No 6 Sky Balloon

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
