Gumbys Gossip Pinjarra 1st March
GUMBYS GOSSIP- Pinjarra- 1st March
A good country class programme at Pinjarra this afternoon as the club moves towards their big race days over the coming few weeks. A few very well credentialed horses commencing their racing careers here this afternoon, and it will pay to watch betting markets as to get a good indication of their chances. Best race of the day is probably Race 7 with a good field of sprinters to contest down the straight five furlongs, but most of the supporting races today are full of interest also.
Race 1- Chicken Treat "Pinjarra's Favorite" Maiden- 1600metres
Punters should get off on the right foot this afternoon by backing Regal Honour to win here. This horse has run some good races at his first three starts, three second placings behind a few promising horses of the calibre of Opera Seria and Lethal Jones and should relish the increase in distance to the mile, he has been running on strongly over 1400metres and looking for the extra ground. Should be a good start to the afternoon for top hoop William Pike here. Te Quiero may improve today coming back to a more suitable field, he has run in good city company of late, hasn't got a good strike rate at all, but thats probably as he has been running mostly in the city staying races. Cape Fear should also improve this afternoon, he has been midfield at most of his six starts and apart from Regal Honour, this isn't an overly strong field. An interesting one from the trials is Star Attack, first race start over the 1600metres for trainer Hana Dickson seems unusual, but he has been running in 1450metre trials at Lark Hill in preparation for his race debut.
Numbers- 5-1-6-8
Suggested Bet- 5- Regal Honour- Win
Race 2- Rustique Hair Design Pinjarra Maiden- 1600metres
This could be another winner for William Pike here in the Umatilla gelding Tilla Chance. He has been quite impressive at his last two starts when placed behind Opera Seria and Classique Ivory and he gets his chance to break out of maiden company this afternoon. He has held his form well in this campaign, and should land in a forward position this afternoon from a nice draw and can give Pike an early double here. Let's Buy Iht has an amazing record of five fourths from five race starts, its tempting to tip him for fourth, but he does appear to be a slightly better proposition today, will appreciate the jump to 1600metres and can run into the placings in this. Duke Of Norfolk is another who should improve this afternoon for trainer Trevor Andrews, he may also relish the extra distance here from his last few outings, and Ocyofoz may be best of the rest, he has been around the place in this sort of company of late.
Numbers- 5-10-4-1
Suggested Bet- 5- Tilla Chance- Win
Race 3- Josephine's Salon De Beaute Pinjarra Maiden- 1200metres
It gets a lot harder here with numerous chances in a very open race. At least you should get good value if having an investment in this race. Will go for Polar Cat, the Harvey factor is the deciding factor really. He did run a nice third two starts ago at Bunbury behind Comfysofa and followed that up with an even run when seventh at Bunbury last start, but with a good barrier draw and top jockey Paul Harvey taking over the reins look for improvement today. There are a number of first up starters here, most with promising trial form. One of those is the Sharon Miller trained newcomer Days Like These, he won a trial impressively back on Feb13 and may represent great each way odds at his first race start. Another is Blitz Off, who also won a trial very well on Feb 20, and comes into the race nicely weighted here. Background may start favourite today, he does have race experience on his side, but is drawn very wide and represents a bit of a risk if he is caught wide from that barrier. Graduate Girl and Hinzley also have claims in a very open race.
Numbers- 4-7-10-1
Suggested Bet- 4- Polar Cat-7- Days Like These, Small each way investments.
Race 4- Pinjarra Golf Club Maiden- 1200metres
It's hard to go past War Profile in this event on the strength of his only race start when third to Nine Tenors at Belmont last winter. He hasn't been produced in trials for his racing return, but the good run in that race at Belmont it is hard to tip anything to beat him this afternoon, once again to be ridden by William Pike and he should go close here. Endorsed was scratched last week from a race at Bunbury where I did tip him, so will follow up today, he may be struggling to beat War Profile though. An interesting runner is the first starter Grape Crusher, a newcomer raced by the Meadowcroft/Bell ownership, he hasn't set the world alight in trials, but you just expect him to run a forward race here today, certainly keep a watch on the price with this first starter. Eye of the Beetle may also be around the place, Shaun Meeres has been riding in good form lately, and he represents each way value here.
Numbers- 1-7-4-2
Suggested Bet- 1- War Profile- Win
Race 5- Carlton Draught Made From Beer Handicap- 1000metres
The first race of the afternoon over the straight five furlongs here, and quite a difficult race to dissect with quite a few chances. On an each way basis I will go with Venetian Queen to break through this afternoon, she has been placed at her three attempts down the straight at Pinjarra, and has drawn an outside barrier, both good pointers to a good showing in this race. She will be at nice odds I would expect, so may be one to go for here as she has shown consistent form in her first ten starts and handles the difficult assignment of the Pinjarra 1000metres. The interesting runner is first starter Cyclonic Halo from the powerful Simon Miller stable, he has impressed at trials and has also drawn preferably out wide on the track, will pay to see the odds on this horse, he will probably be a little shorter than the $8 quoted in the paper I would expect. Fighting Blues is another who ran a good race at this track and distance last start and may continue a good afternoon for William Pike, has to be included in the main chances today, and another horse out of that same race on Feb 19 in Husslehoff may also be an each way chance, he ran a good race first up following on from an easy trial win.
Numbers- 6-4-1-3
Suggested Bet- 6- Venetian Queen- Each Way
Race 6- Chaff City Classic-22nd March Handicap- 2013metres
The distance race of the afternoon and we will have to follow up on Namisuki in this race, although not with any great confidence as these races do throw up some strange results at times. His last two starts have been full of merit though, especially his last start when flying home at this track last Sunday week, to nail Scarpered right on the line. He only rises 0.5kgs on that win, and once again with Pike on board must be the main winning chance here. Neige is a battle hardy veteran galloper having start number fifty eight this afternoon, and this race does look to suit him more. He has been running mostly at Ascot in much stronger company, then went to Bunbury last start and ran a creditable third to Sheer Logic that day. Lowndsie did hold off all comers at his last start at Bunbury, and can give a sight again today if he can get into a forward position, although maybe the rise in weight this afternoon precludes him from being a winning proposition, and Blazing Rhythm is down a long way in class from his last few city starts today and may be one for novelty punters here.
Numbers- 1-6-3-4
Suggested Bet- No Bet
Race 7- John Chalmers Bloodstock Services Handicap- 1000metres
A terrific straight five furlong race here with some good types engaged. I do think Haboob is a great each way investment here on the back of his impressive record over this trip, he hasn't been unplaced at eight attempts at this track and distance, having won three races during that time. He got home again last start here on Jan 19 and freshened up for this assignment represents good value, purely on his impressive record. An interesting runner is the WA debutante Plain Lucky for the Adam Durrant stable, an ex-Victorian galloper that did run some good races on Melbourne city tracks prior to relocating here, he has won first up previously as well, and another one of these interesting first starters this afternoon, who it may pay to look at what prices are offered about them. Frenchman is a very speedy conveyance making a return to racing today, yet to run down the Pinjarra straight, but he has got class on his side and a good first up record. Another with a good track/distance record is Chok Dee, a last start second here on Feb 8 before running just behind the placegetters at Ascot at his last three starts. Tottenham Hots is another who has shown form earlier in his career and may go well first up today.
Numbers- 3-6-1-8
Suggested Bet- 3- Haboob- Each Way
Race 8- The Bill Ward Memorial Handicap- 1500metres
Mc Are has run some good races of late culminating in a Narrogin victory last start, he had certainly been working up to that win and may go on with it here. He has held form very nicely in this campaign and although down in distance 200 metres this afternoon, is nicely drawn in barrier eight, and will race in a forward position as he does in most of his races. Fair Hunter was very disappointing last start when starting favourite and only finishing seventh to Amarna at Bunbury, he just plodded to the line that day, so I am summising the appointment of apprentice Ben Paterson to get him down to 56kgs is a result of that performance, look for an improved showing today with the reduction in weight. Central Park is normally ever consistent, another who disappointed somewhat last week at Bunbury, however another who drops a little in weight for this assignment and is nicely drawn, so does come into calculations today. Very Cherry may improve on her first up run in the state at Ascot on Jan21, she was a winner at Sale just before she came to WA, and Go Jorj brings reasonable Ascot form down here today, maybe a little short to back in an open race though.
Numbers- 6-1-8-3
Suggested Bet- 6- McAre- Each Way
Race 9- Celebrate Pinjarra Cup 1 April Handicap- 1200metres
The promising Empress of Ireland looks to be a good bet to finish the day here. This Due Sasso filly has impressed at two race starts beating home subsequent maiden winner The Park Dancer at her first race start before a good third to Pinnici here at her last start on Feb10. She is beautifully drawn in barrier six today, and should race in a commanding position throughout the race for jockey Peter Knuckey, she does look like the best one for the final leg of your quaddies today. Daka Express has run some good consistent races lately, and from a good draw, and also with Pike on board can prove to be a good each way chance in this race. Shario Torio won well here last start over the 1000metres and may run well in this as should Dirty Flirty, coming off a second to Pharinfront at this track last start, however his winning chances aren't done any favours by the very wide barrier draw at the 1200metre start.
Numbers- 9-5-8-2
Suggested Bet- 9- Empress of Ireland- Win
Best Bet- Race 1 No 5 Regal Honour
Race 7 No 3 Haboob- Each Way
Race 9 No 9 Empress of Ireland

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
