GUMBYS GOSSIP- Pinjarra Thursday 17th May

An early start time of 11.42am today with a nine event card of country racing, certainly the highlight is race seven over the flying 1000metres with some very good types engaged including multiple city winners Flying Affair and Trustee Brown, definitely a race to look forward to on this programme. Some promising provincial types engaged throughout the day in what should be a good days racing at the Pinjarra track.

Race 1- Husson Lightning@ Heytesbury Stud Maiden- 1400metres

Swing has been expensive to follow in her six start career, she has started favourite on numerous occasions without saluting the judge, but once again she looms as the favourite in this maiden race to open the programme, and certainly looks the one to beat. She came home well last start when second to Background at this track on Apr25, and appears to be suited by the extra 200metres this afternoon. She is drawn beautifully for Jason Whiting and its very hard to tip anything to beat her today. Royal Edict has been racing very well lately, she also ran second at her last start here on May2, but has yet to break the ice after 22 starts, and may have to play bridesmaid again this afternoon. Others with chances are Spirytus, another with recent placings at this track in similar types of race as this one, he will only carry 53kgs with the claim for apprentice Mitchell Pateman today and must be a good chance to run into the money once again, as may Phenomenal Anemone for the Brett Pope stable, also showing promising form in maiden races of late.
Numbers- 6-7-9-1
Suggested Bet- 6- Swing- Win

Race 2- The Philip Manvell Maiden- 1400metres

A capacity field to tackle this maiden event with quite a few chances, but I think we can select Just Hoping with a bit of confidence today. This Mark Bairstow trained gelding ran a terrific race at his first start when second to the promising Real Glow at this track at the May 2 meeting and allowing for further improvement this afternoon must be hard to beat, he is drawn beautifully in barrier three in this big field which can only help his chances today. He also featured in the stewards report after that debut run when held up for a run, all pointers to a very strong showing here. Not So Sweet has run two good races at her first two race starts finishing in the money on both occasions and should pay to follow on the strength of those efforts at Narrogin and here at Pinjarra, experienced jockey Glenn Smith hops back on board here so expect a strong showing. Ruby's Joy has mixed her form in her first three starts but with the engagement of Paul Harvey to ride today, plus a nice barrier draw, may run into the minor placings. Doubt You Catch Me may also improve today, was not far away last start in the Real Glow race here at Pinjarra, and from the strong Adam Durrant stable, should be able to play some part in the finish this afternoon.
Numbers- 3-10-11-12
Suggested Bet- 3- Just Hoping- Win

Race 3- Programmed Integrated Workforce Maiden- 1200metres

An extremely open race here so invest with caution if having investments on this event. Free Geoffrey has been impressive at two of his three starts to date and may represent good each way value here. He has raced at the front of the field in his last two starts, and with the 2kg claim for Renee Forrest and a nice draw in barrier five, he just may prove hard to catch this afternoon. However, there are lots of others with claims here including Bridgewaters, who did run two impressive placings at Bunbury in his last campaign when well supported by punters, he looks to have some ability and could go very well today. Stellar Enterprise has been given a let up since a poor performance on Bunbury Cup day when well fancied, she may have choked down that day, so maybe an excuse was in the offing there, her previous form was pretty good, another with a chance in this. Seethingsyoudon't was an impressive trial winner last week by 4 ½ lengths for the Gangemi stable, he looms to be ready to step out and run a good race first up for them, and others with chances in this open race are Terrick Terrick and Monemvasia, all in all a very tough race to try and pick a winner.
Numbers- 1-9-2-6
Suggested Bet- No Bet

Race 4- Programmed Facility Management Maiden- 1200metres

A couple of promising types engaged here who raced in the same field at the May 2 meeting at this track in Surfcat and Blitz'em, very difficult to split them as the on top selection in this race, its probably a matter of guessing who may improve a little more after those first up efforts. Surfcat will be the number one selection, she is beautifully drawn in barrier two and has the services of Kyra Yuill today. This Bearcat filly ran a nice first up sixth to Royal Rhapsody, who was ridden by Yuill that day and may just improve on that run and go close in this. Blitz'em does have to contend with barrier ten today and raced a little ungenerously on debut, but must command a lot of respect in this race though, both appear set for bright futures certainly on the provincial circuit. One with a few race starts under his belt is Pegatrick for trainer Trevor Andrews, he must also come into calculations today, his last run behind Real Glow at this track was full of merit, and he has run some nice races in his career so far. They appear to be the main three chances in this race, maybe Spirit of Sandra can run a good race for punters looking for a quartet investment here.

Numbers- 13-2-1-11
Suggested Bet- 13- Surfcat- Each Way

Race 5- Programmed "Zero Harm" Maiden- 1000metres

This will be like a stampede down the outside rail over the flying straight 1000metre course in this race with a maximum field engaged. My three main chances are drawn on the outside, normally imperative in these sort of races. I will go with Equine Eagle on an each way basis in another tough race, this Flying Pegasus colt ran a very good third at his first race start behind Real Glow here a fortnight ago, and may give you a good sight for your money today. Paul Harvey hops on in place of the injured Shaun O'Donnell and having drawn barrier 18 will hopefully settle in a forward position leading the outside division here. One that has been placed over the straight 1000metres is Sass'N'Smile, he began poorly here at the last Pinjarra meeting over this distance, but previous to that ran Mystic Dust to a neck in a similar maiden event, he is also drawn perfectly out wide in this race today. The other main hope would seem to be Queen Of Quincy, she has been disappointing since that run behind Murphy's Red Boy at Northam nearly a year ago now, however that was such a promising run on that day we still have to respect her solely on that effort, she went to Belmont and started favourite on the strength of that run at Northam. Fondue Star may improve today and be a roughie for a place for novelty punters, she has trialled really well for her return to the racetrack and may pay to keep an eye on this afternoon.
Numbers- 3-1-11-13
Suggested Bet- 3- Equine Eagle- Each Way

Race 6- Programmed Construction and Maintenance Handicap- 1000metres

A much smaller field to contest this race, although not an overly strong field either, which is why I will tip El Costa Mar to bring up her second race victory this afternoon. She has been racing really well of late in stronger company running just behind the placegetters at Ascot then her last start was only beaten a short head by Hurritdanz here at the May 2 meeting, she really does look like she will finally break through for a well deserved victory today. That last start second was over this distance as well, so the straight five race shouldn't pose any problems to her. Rack'EmUp looks the logical danger today, he has been sparingly raced, however did have two starts here in January for a second and a maiden victory, so certainly looks to have claims in this race today. Next best I think would be My Rouge, placed twice over the Pinjarra 1000metres previously, first up today though, and Stormy Mac is another first up after a long spell, but does have first up form to recommend him, certainly one at a little value that may be around the place with Paul Harvey aboard today.

Numbers- 2-1-4-5
Suggested Bet- 2- El Costa Mar- Win

Race 7- Programmed Group Services Handicap- 1000metres

A tremendous field to contest this race for a provincial event with the likes of multiple city winners Flying Affair and Trustee Brown engaged. I think the strength of this field is reflected in some of the weights allocated to the horses engaged with Trustee Brown to lump a massive 65kgs. I would have to go with Flying Affair on weights, she will carry 58kgs after the claim of apprentice Joseph Azzopardi and that surely tips the scales well in her favour. She always races well fresh and although having her first start at the Pinjarra track should handle it no problems, she is a top class filly. Haboob has a brilliant record over this distance at Pinjarra being unplaced only once from ten starts, she has been up for a long while but on the strength of her efforts here must be considered a chance in this. Trustee Brown raced really well last campaign, culminating in back to back wins at Belmont and must still be considered a chance even though lumping that massive topweight. Freetime is another that races well over the sprint journey, he won last start carrying 60kgs so must still be respected in this race.
Numbers- 3-6-1-2
Suggested Bet- 3- Flying Affair- Win

Race 8- Programmed Property Services Handicap- 2000metres

Endless Sacrifice finally broke through for a victory last week at Northam when winning on protest, it did follow some good form previous to that and she can hopefully go on with it today and notch another victory for the Lindsey Smith yard. She has been thereabouts at every start this campaign so she looms as a good each way bet in this event today. The rise to 59kgs is a slight worry but if she can carry that weight I think she will be right in the firing line again in this race. The main danger here appears to be Scotland The Brave who ran a slashing race when first up in this state here on May 2 when a narrow runner up to the promising Leoluck. If he can go on with that sort of form he will also prove hard to beat, but will need to somehow get into the field from a shocking draw on the outside of the field today. Jet Plane is another racing in good form this campaign and although on trial at the 2000metres must be considered a chance in this race, as will Hyden, who is still a maiden but ran a very good second at her last start at this track a month ago. Others with claims are Ihtsadame and Incentive Scheme who come out of the same race at Albany on May 3, although Ihtsadame is carrying a lot more weight this afternoon then she did in that race at Albany.

Numbers- 1-9-4-12
Suggested Bet 1- Endless Sacrifice- Win

Race 9- Pinjarra Park Racing 31 May Handicap- 1200metres

Another huge field to close the day with sixteen starters over the 1200 metre journey so many chances once again here. I will go with Royal Rhapsody after her brilliant win by 3 ½ lengths last start, which was at this track on May 2. That followed on from a couple of promising runs in maiden company in her previous campaign, and she does appear to have above average ability on what she has shown so far. Hopefully she can get across from barrier eleven and race up forward as she did at her last start and be a good winning chance for punters here. Another with above average ability is Flashforward, certainly based on her two winning efforts at Northam last spring. She then had two starts in much stronger company at Ascot including a run in the Country Championship final and ran down the track in those, but back to more suitable company here looms as a major player in this final event. Foxy Commander is still a maiden but has run some good races of late, is drawn well and was scratched from a race at Ascot yesterday, so obviously the owners thought this a more suitable proposition for the filly. One for quartet punters in this open race may be Yerakina, she does hold her form well, and is drawn to get a nice cushy run here.

Numbers- 13-6-14-3
Suggested Bet 13- Royal Rhapsody- Each Way

Best Bet- Race 1 No 6 Swing
Race 7 No 3 Flying Affair

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
