Brisbane & Belmont Racing heats up

| Thu 24 May, 2012

It's week 3 of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival and the final day of the Doomben Features before we head over to Eagle Farm next weekend and the QLD Oaks.

The Weight For Age Doomben 10,000 looks to be a hotly contested race with BTC Cup winner Sea Siren currently all the rage at $4. She will be up against a stack of runners whom she belted in the BTC Cup including Beaded ($14), Woorim ($14), Temple of Boom ($15) and Scenic Blast ($21) who fought on bravely to run 2nd.

The main competition will come from those that didn't run in the BTC Cup; Buffering ($6) a race day scratching who is recovering from a hoof injury and Pampelonne ($5.50), the Scone Guineas winner who is facing a 7 Day back-up and a float trip to Brisbane.

Feature Racing at Belmont starts to heat up this week with the Group 3 Roma Cup. This race will see Railway Stakes winner and local hero Luckygray ($2.40) up against dual Roma Cup winner, Grand Nirvana ($4.20), who returns to Perth after a less than impressive Melbourne campaign.

Others in the market include Avante ($8.50), Power Princess ($5.50) and Dreamaway ($9) who will be hoping to regain last year's form which saw her win 2 Listed Races, 2 Group 3s and the Group 1 2011 WATC Derby.

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
