GUMBYS GOSSIP- Pinjarra- 31st May

Nine events at Pinjarra Park this afternoon as autumn racing continues down in the Murray District. A good field to contest Race Six, which sees the return to the racetrack of the promising Red Hot Sax, she will be burdened with 60kgs first up at her first start since the Guineas, but you would think sheer class will get her through today. The supporting races aren't overly strong, however they will most probably be open affairs which make for good punting if having an investment.

Race 1- Probus Association of Western Australia Maiden- 1600metres

A very tough race to start the day with a big field of maidens over the mile, and not a lot of exposed form to go by here. One that does have a little form of late is Invidious, and he will be the selection in this race. His last two starts at this track have resulted in second placings, one of those beaten only a nose by the promising He's Starkers back on ANZAC day and that form line is certainly good enough to win this race, if he can reproduce that run of course. His last effort was good enough when second to Wonorg here on May 17, and he has an ideal draw in pole position at the 1600metres, so hopefully Alan Kennedy can give him a good run and be ready to strike late in the event. The main dangers appear to be Softeis, a pretty good fourth up at Northam last week in a similar race to this, Best Of Minx who is down in class markedly on his last run at Ascot behind subsequent city winner Leoluck, and Spirytus, who has also been about the place in these sorts of races of late.
Numbers- 2-3-5-8
Suggested Bet- 2- Invidious- Win

Race 2- Forum Gents Hairstylists Maiden- 1400metres

A little more form exposed in this maiden race. Ultimate Success ran a very good race at his first race start all things considered, he came home strongly over the 1300metres giving the indication the extra 100metres here will suit, he raced very greenly that day and gave jockey Paul Harvey a torrid ride. At his second start and allowing for further improvement he must be very hard to beat, especially from an ideal draw in barrier two. He is the on top selection in this race. Another with good form is Bridgewaters, this Saxon gelding has run three thirds from his four race starts, and looms as a major player in this race today as he also improves with racing. Monemvasia has run a couple of nice seconds at this track in her last three starts, her last start she beat home Bridgewaters, but does meet him 3kgs worse from that last effort, something worth noting. Gold Sasso may be the best of the rest in a pretty good maiden race, he has been just behind the placegetters of late, and does come in well on weights with the 3kg claiming apprentice Mitchell Pateman on board today.
Numbers- 2-1-9-4
Suggested Bet- 2- Ultimate Success- Win

Race 3- Smartline Personal Mortgage Advisors Maiden- 1400metres

This is a good maiden race with a couple of promising types engaged, one of which is our old favourite Swing, who has run five seconds from eight attempts and unfortunately been very costly to punters. It looks like she will be one of the main chances once again here, so maybe its a case of butter up again and hope she can finally break through if you have been following her, if not maybe Temples is the way to go in this, he has shown great promise in his four race starts, he was entered for the Lee Steere Stakes at Ascot last December, so connections must have a high opinion of this Lonhro gelding. Both are well drawn for their assignments today and loom as the two major chances, I will go for Swing once again, and hope that today is finally the day, maybe the 1400metres will suit her a little more than the mile from last week, they may go a little quicker and she can run home over the top of this field. Flirt With Time has run two good races at her two race starts, she is resuming from a slight let up today but must be considered a place chance in this race, and you would expect improvement from Fine Prince also, he did race in stronger company until his last start, a fourth to Pegatrick here two weeks ago.
Numbers- 10-1-11-4
Suggested Bet- 10- Swing- Win

Race 4- Chase Bar and Bistro Maiden- 1200metres

Stellar Enterprise finally gets her chance to put a win on the board today, this isn't an overly strong maiden field and she has shown enough in the past to think she will be right in this. Last start at this track two weeks ago she led and faded slightly to finish fourth to Iseethingsyoudont, but given that start was after a two month break its safe to assume she will strip fitter for that run and be quite hard to beat today. Peter Knuckey hops on board this afternoon, he could ride a broomstick to victory at present, so that only enhances the chances of this Key Business filly here. She is perfectly drawn in barrier four and does represent a great each way chance this afternoon. Free Geoffrey may represent the main danger here, he raced wide throughout last start when sixth here at Pinjarra two weeks ago in the same race, with the pole barrier position that shouldn't happen again today and he does like to race close to the lead, which shouldn't be a problem from the good draw. Memphis Playboy is an interesting runner for the Luciani stables from the trials, he did win a trial at Belmont in preparation for his race debut today, so it may pay to keep an eye on him. Days Like This is another that may improve at his third race start as well. He has run a couple of pretty good races finishing just behind the placegetters at his two race starts, he finished fifth in the same race as Stellar Enterprise and Free Geoffrey two weeks ago, but does have to contend with a wide draw here today.

Numbers- 7-1-6-4
Suggested Bet- 7- Stellar Enterprise- Each Way

Race 5- Sandy Cove Tavern Maiden- 1200metres

Another maiden race here and this is a tough race to dissect, with no real exposed form of any sort. I will go for Real Equity based on the fact he ran a good fourth here last start, second up from a spell, so should be ready to put his best hoof forward today. He has drawn extremely well for jockey Glenn Smith and his racing pattern indicates he will be around the front of the pack in running, possibly leading the field. Legal Rooney did win a trial a couple of weeks ago in preparation for his return to the track, he was a Pinjarra placegetter in his last campaign, so may go well fresh this afternoon. Caiyson also returns today, he has also run some reasonable races previously, would probably prefer over further than this, but he just may go well while fresh, and Some Time Soon is on debut here today, did run a nice trial back on April 30 when second that day, another that may go alright with Knuckey on board at what should be a good price. Torta Di Fango has also shown promise, but the barrier draw isn't in her favour today, but she must have some chance if overcoming that hurdle.
Numbers- 6-3-5-13
Suggested Bet- No Bet

Race 6- Premier Hotel- Bucks Off Liquor Handicap- 1200metres

A very good country field here with the return to the track of the very promising Saxon filly Red Hot Sax. She hasn't started since finishing third to King Saul in the WA Guineas last November, but with a very good first up record she must be the testing material in this event. Trainer David Harrison has opted for apprentice Renee Forrest to get the weight down to 60kgs, still a good impost, but her class should shine through today and she should be winning this race. Centrum is another who has done most of his races on city tracks but did venture down here to Pinjarra for his last start when a runner up to Haboob over the straight five furlong course, he meets Haboob 1.5kgs better today for only being beaten a short half head that day, so may well be the main danger to Red Hot Sax in this race. Haboob is a Pinjarra specialist, but maybe the 1200metres wont suit her as much as the straight course, but she must still be respected on recent efforts down here, and My Rouge has very good Pinjarra form also, but has to contend with a wide draw at the 1200metre start, that may hamper his chances today, but he still commands respect on recent form. Rivimac dislodged the rider last start, but form previous to that was very consistent, although in lesser company than he steps out against this afternoon.

Numbers- 1-2-3-13
Suggested Bet- 1- Red Hot Sax- Win

Race 7- Beer Bet and Bite Syndicate Handicap- 1600metres

A very tough race this one, a lot of these horses have been around a while without setting the world on fire, and its hard to pick anything with great confidence in this event. One that may go well is Haldeman, he is making his debut at the Pinjarra track today, but has some reasonable form on city tracks, including his maiden win at Ascot on Apr 11, when last ridden by Paul Harvey, who will pilot him this afternoon. He is drawn well for his first assignment here and looks to be one of the best chances in a difficult race, certainly one to include in quadrellas this afternoon. Lowndsie is one horse that runs some pretty good races normally from the front, and his last start he did run fourth to Electioneer at Ascot on Apr 11, only finishing 1 ½ lengths from the winner that day, he may cross from the awkward barrier and bowl along in front and give you a good sight for your money. You Want Suma Dis got into trouble last start behind Leoluck at Ascot and may go well down here at his first start on the Pinjarra circuit, and another that has shown improvement lately is Mortgage, he did finally win his maiden at Mt Barker back in March, and has run some reasonable races since then.

Numbers- 1-4-3-2
Suggested Bet- No Bet

Race 8- Silver Sands Tavern Handicap- 2000metres

A capacity field to face the starter in the distance race of the day, but I do think Cat Five may prove the one to beat here. His last start was full of merit when only going down by a nose to the promising galloper Dickens at Belmont, and providing he handles the rise in distance to 2000metres, should prove very hard to beat this afternoon. His only previous start here at Pinjarra he won his maiden with ease and he does look a good galloper in the making. Regular jockey Pat Carbery takes the mount once again, he has ridden many a winner for the strong Simon Miller stable lately and can chalk another one up in this race. No Expectations has raced well enough of late to give his backers plenty of expectations and he comes into this race with a strong chance, he has been something of a perennial placegetter this campaign, always running on at the end of his races, no doubt will be doing similar today, but has to always be given a chance in these types of events. Endless Sacrifice has been up for a while but always races well in these distance races, it is a noticeable jockey engagement of apprentice Joseph Azzopardi this afternoon to get the 2kg weight reduction, she has been carrying a fair bit over her last three starts, so comes in with 57kgs this afternoon. One at odds may be Chester's Mill, he went to Albany last start and bolted in by over 3 lengths, this is a stronger field today but may just pay to respect on that last performance.

Numbers- 2-9-1-5
Suggested Bet 2- Cat Five- Win

Race 9- Pinjarra Park Racing 14 June Handicap- 1400metres

Quite a few chances in an open race to finish the card today, hopefully you have a few running for you if you are alive in quaddies as this is another difficult race to predict with any confidence. I do like the recent form of Comfysofa from the Chris Stelmach stable, he has been racing well of late, following his maiden win at Bunbury back in April. His latest two efforts have been quite good in stronger city company, running just behind the placegetters in those races. The determining factor in making him the number one selection today is the appointment of Paul Harvey to pilot him, and he may just end up finishing what could be a good day for Paul by booting home a winner here. Mossroy is another who has been going pretty consistently of late, has had a let up since his last start fifth behind Arctic Ocean at Ascot in mid March, but he does race well after a break, and has been in the money at all three starts on the Pinjarra track, certainly good pointers to a forward showing today. Octagene ran a nice race two weeks ago when third to Foxy Commander here, has drawn quite nicely and may go well again for young apprentice Chanelle O'Grady, and another showing consistent form at this track is Major Dream, he has been placed at his last two here in similar sort of fields, and will carry a light weight this afternoon.

Numbers- 3-2-1-7
Suggested Bet 3- Comfysofa- Each Way

Best Bet- Race 2 No 2 Ultimate Success
Race 6 No 1 Red Hot Sax

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
