Hoops Tips for Northam WA Day 4th June
RACE 1 - GANNONS MAIDEN 1000m
No. 3 TWO FISH HEADS - I'm happy to play in the first. I think that (3) TWO FISH HEADS is the one to beat. He makes his debut for the Justin Warwick stable after previously being trained by Kellie Kersley. His trial leading up to his debut was very good viewing and his effort at the track was solid where he ran second in mid-week city company. He resumes without a trial which is always a slight query but this stable normally have them ready to fire fresh. The clear danger is (2) BAHADUR, he rocketed home at his last start and if he repeats that he'll be hard to beat. (4) MASTER ROBSON has shown some ability previously and he resumes from a spell. His recent trial win was solid. Paul Harvey rides (8) SPIRIT OF SANDRA and she has an each way chance again.
Numbers - 3, 2, 4, 8
Suggested Bet - Two Fish Heads win and Bahadur save
RACE 2 - PURSLOWE TINETTI MAIDEN 1100m
No. 7 QUEEN OF QUINCY - The Lindsay Smith trained filly (7) QUEEN OF QUINCY is the key runner in this maiden. She's obviously had a few problems in her career but if she repeats her first up effort she'll be very hard to beat. In that occasion she was edged out late by Equine Eagle up the Pinjarra straight. (8) JUST DE LOVELY resumes from a spell and going by her recent trial effort she should be ready to run a big race fresh. From barrier 1 she'll more than likely box seat in the run. (1) HURRICANE HOUND went terribly first up, he's better than that and he can improve sharply back to this grade. (10) MISS MOTOWN has always shown some ability and her recent trial was good. She could be the value runner.
Numbers - 7, 8, 1, 10
Suggested Bet - None recommended
RACE 3 - MORRIS PEST AND WEED CONTROL MAIDEN 1100m
No. 5 KASUMBA - I'm going for some value in this event and putting (5) KASUMBA on top. I liked this galloper's trials leading up to his debut but after drawing wide and settling at the tail he never fired a shot. I'm happy to put a line through the effort. From barrier 1 he settle much closer and we'll see what he has got. (3) REALLY SLEEK looks the one to beat on form. He resumes from a spell and in his first campaign he ran some nice races behind some talented gallopers. (1) HIGHLIGHT REEL has had plenty of chances but if he repeats his last start performance in town he's in the mix. (4) STRAY CAT trialled very nicely and he should be ready to put in a big first up effort.
Numbers - 5, 3, 1, 4
Suggested Bet - Kasumba each way
RACE 4 - AVON VALLEY ADVOCATE MAIDEN 1600m
No. 9 IT'S ONLY LOVE - This looks the special of the day. (9) IT'S ONLY LOVE has her hoof firmly planted on the till and she should be able to break her duck in this event. First up in the state she put in a massive effort sitting wide and getting edged out late. She then came to town in a mid-week mares race (admittedly it was very weak) and she missed by a long neck. From barrier 1 she'll get a dream trip and with normal racing luck she wins. (2) PRINCELY SAGE has started on three occasions and run three placings. He lacks any turn of foot which is a concern but with the blinkers being added that might just find him some ping. (13) BON BON BONNY looks a grinder and he has good top four claims. (4) THE DEVELOPER is limited but can fill a hole for the novelties in this field.
Numbers - 9, 2, 13, 4
Suggested Bet - It's Only Love win
RACE 5 - GRAFTON ELECTRICS MAIDEN 1300m
No. 9 ON CLOUD NINE - Another maiden race I'm happy to get involved with. I thought the first up effort of (9) ON CLOUD NINE was good and I suspect he'll be a value runner in this event. He missed the kick, settled at the rear, met interference and was working to the line solidly in a race that was hard to make ground. The step up to 1300m should suit and I think he'll represent value in an even race. (1) FLYING LORD had the nice run first up and he ran well. The draw will make it tougher but he's in the mix. There was good money for (7) SCIDO first up and he ran an even race. He'll win a maiden soon. (5) SONAZEE trialled nicely and he looks ready to run a race first up.
Numbers - 9, 1, 7, 5
Suggested Bet - On Cloud Nine each way
RACE 6 - NORTHAM TRADERS' SPRINT 1300m
No. 2 NEW TIME - This is a good race with some very nice types engaged. I think the three key runners are (2) NEW TIME, (3) TAQWAA and (6) EASTERN TWISTER and that is the order I'll be putting them in. (2) NEW TIME has been beaten at his last two starts but both performances have been enormous. He was held up badly two starts back and rattled late last start he parked wide throughout with a hot speed and was still finishing powerfully. Northam should suit his get back run on style and I think he'll be hard to hold out. (3) TAQWAA is a promising type for Simon Miller. He was very good last preparation, destroying his rivals first up and then winning well at his next start. His recent trial was good and I think he should be able to box seat from barrier 1. There was a stack of money for (6) EASTERN TWISTER in the Provincial Championship Final and the money was left in the bag after he was unable to see any daylight in the straight. Paul Harvey on and he has started once at Northam for a win. He's a big player. (7) FRENCHMAN makes his debut for the Justin Warwick stable and going by his trial effort he should be ready to run a race first up for the stable.
Numbers - 2, 3, 6, 7
Suggested Bet - None recommended
RACE 7 - AVON VALLEY CONTRACTORS WESTERN AUSTRALIA DAY CUP 1600m
No. 3 ROMAN KNOWS - A good competitive line-up for this $40,000 feature. I'm happy to be on (3) ROMAN KNOWS who will really appreciate the step up to the mile. He was given the gun run by Craig Staples first up but he just lacked the zip over the 120m. From barrier 4 he should get the gun run again and I think he has a class edge on this field. (6) AMBERSTROEM is a bit of a non-winner but all his efforts for the Alan Mathews camp have been good. From barrier 1 he gets a soft run and will likely sprint hard using the cutaway in the straight. (1) ANCIENT SPELL will likely burn over from his outside gate and try and lead. He hasn't been able to at his last two and he has battled. (2) DOUTABLE won well last start and if he repeats he's a definite chance again.
Numbers - 3, 6, 1, 2
Suggested Bet - Roman Knows win
RACE 8 - NORTHAM TOYOTA HANDICAP 1100m
No. 2 SEATTLE BEAU - I think we can finish with a winner. (2) SEATTLE BEAU should be very hard to beat in this event. He was very good first up and then was just unable to rundown the speedsters Excelorada and Hurritdanz. From a middle gate Jason Whiting can peel him to the outside and he has won previously at the track. He'll be very hard to beat. I think the danger is (5) TIGER DOWN UNDER his effort last start at the track/distance was very good after he travelled wide throughout. He's drawn nicely and drops 3kg in weight. (12) MEGA BLETCH trialled well and should be ready to run a race fresh. (8) SILVERCITY GIRL resumes from a spell, she's limited but has top four claims.
Numbers - 2, 5, 12, 8
Suggested Bet - Seattle Beau win and Tiger Down Under save

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
