Gumbys Gossip - Pinjarra 7th June
GUMBYS GOSSIP- Pinjarra- Thursday 7th June
Back to Pinjarra this afternoon for more racing following the washout of the last six races at last weeks meeting. Its free entry for everyone today and lets hope the weather gods are kind to the club and we can get this meeting through. The clash of Red Hot Sax and Money For Cash looks a highlight on the card, two very good horses racing in the fourth event of the day. A couple of good bets to be had in Great Success and Friarday, punctuated by some very open races where the winners do seem well concealed.
Race 1- Smartline Personal Mortgage Advisors Maiden- 1400metres
Great Success has been knocking on the door in recent times and certainly gets his chance to taste victory in this race today. He has been charging home at his last two starts at Northam so the 1400metres today looks to suit him down to the ground. He is perfectly drawn in barrier three for top hoop Paul Harvey and certainly ticks a lot of boxes in this race, maybe we can back him with some confidence this afternoon. The major dangers appear to be Five Inch Heels who has run some nice races behind the placegetters of late, culminating in a last start third to Gold Sasso here last week, she comes in well with the claim for apprentice Renee Forrest and carries 54kgs today, and is beautifully drawn in barrier two for this assignment, and Monenvasia has form from the same race here last Thursday when fourth to Gold Sasso, similarly has the 2kg claim for apprentice Ben Paterson which brings him down to 54kgs also. They appear to be the three main chances in the opening event, one at value may be Kim Bullett, he will be no doubt improved from his first up race run last week at Northam and could sneak into quartets in this race.
Numbers- 2-10-12-6
Suggested Bet- 2- Great Success- Win
Race 2- Chase Bar and Bistro Maiden- 1200metres
Stellar Enterprise looks to be well suited in this race this afternoon, as he did last week before the meeting was called off. This Key Business mare ran a pretty good race first up when fourth to Iseethingsyoudont at Pinjarra on May17, he just faded late in that race and should strip fitter today. Peter Knuckey hops on board here, probably the hottest jockey in the state at the moment so that certainly enhances his chances, as does the perfect barrier draw in number four, so this mare does look a good each way chance here today. Azza looks to have a fair amount of ability, his only start was in much stronger company behind Lee Rani at Ascot prior to Christmas, and he was a very impressive trial winner at Lark Hill a couple of weeks ago, so certainly pay him some respect in this field today. Torta Di Fango has drawn wide today at the tough 1200metre start, but her last run was quite good behind Equine Eagle down the straight five furlong course also on May 17, she looks to have some prospects here also. Best of the rest is probably Fine Equity, a good fourth to Blue Sasso at Northam last start, he is one that certainly looks to be improving with racing, drawn beautifully for experienced hoop Troy Turner today.
Numbers- 13-1-14-3
Suggested Bet- 13- Stellar Enterprise- Each Way
Race 3- Sandy Cover Tavern Maiden- 1200metres
A pretty open maiden race here with quite a few chances, and not a lot of good race form exposed. Free Geoffrey may just jump to the front here from his perfect barrier draw and be a good each way chance. Last start he raced wide throughout and faded back to sixth as expected with such a tough run, but if allowed to bowl along in front here may give you a good sight for your money. Renee Forrest claims 2kgs and brings the weight down to 56kgs here, she is fresh from riding a front running winner in McScar at Belmont last Saturday and may just do it again this afternoon. Ziva Star looks to have above average ability and can run a good race here, she hasn't copped a good draw but has shown with two places from three race starts that she can be around the place for in form jockey Peter Knuckey. Others with chances appear to be Days Like These who has run fifth in two starts both at the Pinjarra track, and looks to be an improver today, and one at odds at his first start may be Memphis Playboy, has been trialling very well but is awkwardly drawn for his first race assignment, but it still may pay to keep an eye on first up today.
Numbers- 3-14-2-4-
Suggested Bet- 3- Free Geoffrey- Each Way
Race 4- Premier Hotel- Bucks Off Liquor Handicap- 1200metres
We were awaiting the return of Red Hot Sax to racing last week before the deluge hit the Pinjarra track and the meeting was postponed, but this top Saxon filly resumes today and certainly looks as if she could return on a winning note here. However she will meet another good one in Money For Cash and this should ensure a really good race today. Its probably fair to say Money For Cash was a little disappointing behind Red Mercedes at Belmont last start, but that was a much stronger field than he meets here. Red Hot Sax will have to contend with the outside barrier today but in a difficult selection choice I will opt for her to get the money, her class just may get her through. Money For Cash will certainly be in the race up to its eyeballs though, his form previous at Belmont was first class running placings behind good horses such as Texan and Solsay, so this clash will be a real highlight of the afternoon. Centrum ran a good second at his last start down here at Pinjarra and the veteran galloper looms as a place chance once again today. On The Boil appears to be the best of the rest in a very good provincial race.
Numbers- 1-4-2-5
Suggested Bet- 1- Red Hot Sax- Win
Race 5- Beer, Bet and Bite Syndicate Handicap- 2000metres
This is a very tough race to declare anything as most of these distance races are always a bit of a raffle, this is no exception really. Quite a few chances in a very open race but very difficult to suggest anything with authority. No Expectations has been racing consistently of late and may just finally get his chance to notch a rare victory this afternoon. He has been finishing off his races very strongly so you would think the 2000metres will be of little concern, he should be at nice each way odds today so is probably worth an each way investment. Another with claims looks to be Due To Reign, his form has been quite solid at a variety of tracks and Paul Harvey takes the mount this afternoon, he should be considered also. Lowndsie may probably go to the front and with only 53.5kgs on his back give some cheek and one that has improved of late is Mortgage, took him forever to win his maiden which he finally did down at Mt Barker on Mar 18, he has been sparingly raced since then but has run a couple of reasonable races since which suggests he may be about the place in this relatively easier race for him today. Another with similar form lines is Grand Beau, has been about the place in these sorts of races for a while now, culminating in him winning his maiden on May 2 here, all in all a tough race this one.
Numbers- 6-5-8-4
Suggested Bet- 6- No Expectations- Each Way
Race 6- Silver Sands Tavern Handicap- 1600metres
The promising Friarday steps out again this afternoon, he has made a good return to racing at Northam with a placing behind Petticoat Lane first up followed up by a victory there at his last start, importantly over the same distance as he races over today. He does have to lump 59kgs today but does seem to have class on his side in this race, and can bring up his fourth race victory here this afternoon. Rivimac was in extremely consistent form until he dislodged the rider last start so expect him to be around the place, certainly a good novelty bet today, he has just found it a little difficult to find the post first in this campaign but is always about the place. Haldeman has been racing in stronger fields of late, he may improve down here at the Pinjarra track this afternoon for trainer Shane Edwards, and one to keep an eye on. Pharinfront may be the smokey in this race, Harvey takes the mount today, she hasn't been that far away of late behind some good performers, and should start at double figure odds here, maybe one to include in novelties or have a small each way investment on.
Numbers- 1-3-5-10
Suggested Bet- 1- Friarday- Win
Race 7- Pinjarra Park Racing 14 June Handicap- 1400metres
Another very open race to finish proceedings at Pinjarra today, and once again difficult to declare anything with confidence in this. I Owe You does look to be working up to a victory based on his efforts this campaign, he has the in form hoop Peter Knuckey on board today and is drawn reasonably also. The one negative factor is the 637 days since his last victory, thats a long time isn't it. However on what will be good each way odds we will go for him to put that record to bed this afternoon. Times Are Changing is another that will start at pretty good odds, possibly the poor barrier is the main reason for that, but his form has been very good at Northam over the month of May, he won his maiden up there very easily two weeks ago, and is certainly an in form galloper to consider here. Petticoat Lane also won up at Northam on May 10, then went to Belmont and didn't finish that far from the winner Ebony Buzz a few weeks later, she may be around the place here this afternoon, and Rock Bar is drawn well for this race, another that can run some good races on his day, this is his best draw for a while so we may see him run a good race here this afternoon. All in all it is a difficult race to get out on, and certainly quaddie punters will want to go wide in this event.
Numbers- 7-4-9-6
Suggested Bet- 7- I Owe You- Small Each Way Investment
Best Bet- Race 2 No 2 Great Success
Race 6 No 1 Friarday

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
