Belmont Preview, Wednesday 13th June

Chris Nelson | Metropolitan Racing | Tue 12 June, 2012

In what promises to be a wet affair I’ve been given the hospital handball for the 8 races at Belmont. Hoops, Matt Rigby & Gary Wright have all obviously seen the light and parted on holidays over the storm stakes. None the less there are 8 winners to find.

Race 1.

Magic Halo in a dartboard of glory.

Race 2.

Dual City had the foot firmly on the till when last in work and looks capable of adding to his good first up record. He also gets down in the weights thanks to Jo-Jo Azzopardi. Big Clint will be around the mark again after a solid first up performance and Harvey has stuck. Secret Ruler has been close enough the mark to figure again in weaker company.

2. DUAL CITY - 5. BIG CLINT - 11. SECRET RULER

RACE 3.

A good race with plenty of chances. Looking for value with Mendicity, who never got a proper crack at them last start but did look improved with the blinkers on. Azzopardi’s claim will once again assist his mounts chances. Let’s Lighten Up can’t be faulted but will have it all to prove again with the 59kg. California Dude will have the wide barrier to deal with, whilst the unbeaten Saxapak could be competitive again in the conditions.

3 MENDICITY - 1. LET’S LIGHTEN UP - 5. SAXAPAK

RACE 4.

A race which presents a few forgettables thanks to the conditions, namely November Red and One Cool Queen. Hard to go past Don Sebastian with the combination of his wet record and previous run. Doesn’t win out of turn but tomorrow looks his class. Midnight Touch also looks a decent each-way chance after a couple of promising runs this campaign. If Now Red and Ryan Hill can negotiate the barrier they should be in the finish as well.

4. DON SEBASTIAN - 8. MIDNIGHT TOUCH 2. NOW RED

RACE 5.

Another toughy - Unforgiving Minute is the one who could go one better tomorrow if the conditions favour, whilst we know Cappuccino Time will appreciate the winter conditions. Forgiving Silver Trader for last start and sticking with the good form lines of Mexican Miss.

6. UNFORGIVING MINUTE - 2. SILVER TRADER - 11. CAPPUCCINO TIME

RACE 6.

A race for the non-winners. No Expectations owners will have plenty of expectations as he lines up in very suitable company. A past winner in the slow he could finally put the placing’s to rest. In a polar opposite we’ll look for further value with the heart break kid Discoverers. His best form would win this but his record in the Dead doesn’t inspire. Recent track winner Wildwood will be hurtling home again.

6. NO EXPECTATIONS - 2. DISCOVERERS - 8. WILDWOOD

RACE 7.

Counter Offer looks the good in the seventh race of the day, his past two efforts have put the writing on the board. Sad Eyes did well to just go down last start in similar company, a bit more going her way and she’s in this. Hard to ignore Flashforward’s last run and if it’s a grinding run in the slop that wins the race, it’ll probably be hers.

2. COUNTER OFFER - 11. SAD EYES - 5. FLASHFORWARD

Race 8.

Iseethingsyoudon’t must be considered with the blinkers going on and looks a good bet in the get out stakes. With Dangerously getting their opportunity he also takes a position on the podium with an unbeaten dead record and good recent form. Wild West Willy will be there again for Jason Brown.

8. ISEETHINGSYOUDON’T - 8. DANGEROUSLY - 5. WILDWESTWILLY

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
