Pinjarra Preview, Thursday 14th June

Gary Wright | Country Racing | Thu 14 June, 2012

Winter racing returns to Pinjarra today as the extended season continues, four maiden races and four handicap races with a couple of promising horses stepping out in the maiden races hoping to break the ice today. The last race is the highlight on the programme with a couple of good up and coming gallopers engaged, for quaddie punters the third leg (Race 7) looks extremely difficult, so it may pay to go wide in that race if having a quaddie this afternoon.

Race 1- Powerwest Maiden- 1500metres

A big field of maidens to contest the first race of the day here, but I think we can probably narrow it down to three main winning chances. Ultimate Success has been close to achieving that in his first two race starts for the Price stable, finishing runner up to the promising Tiffany Yellow and Gold Sasso at those two starts. He starts from a very nice gate here and really gets his chance for a debut win for the Peters Investments syndicate. The other main chances appear to be Invidious and The Trout, who both have finished as bridesmaids in their last two outings, Invidious was narrowly beaten by The Pupster here on May 31 following on from another second here two weeks prior, and The Trout held his improved form last start when second to Flying Lord, that following on from a second to Pegatrick here also on May 17, both of these horses look ready to win also. In the end I will go with Ultimate Success as he hasn’t run a bad race yet, and looks like he  will appreciate the rise in distance to 1500metres today. A couple of others for novelty punters could be He’s Henry, Flirt With Time and Torta Di Fangio, all going reasonably well of late. This is a good maiden race to start the day at Pinjarra.

Numbers- 3-1-2-11

Suggested Bet- 3- Ultimate Success- Win

Race 2- Armani Windows Maiden- 1300metres

Another big field of maidens here over the 1300metres, and most of these runners havent got much form to recommend them at all. A couple that have been going well in their first couple of race starts are Tristy Girl and Hallowell Angel, and both look to be right in this race. Tristy Girl has only two race starts to her credit, but both have been quite impressive, especially her last start third to Pegatrick here on May 17, that following on from a reasonably good run behind Bendit at her first race start, and from a nice middle barrier today I will be tipping her to break the ice for trainer Fenella Martin. The other main chance in this race appears to be Hallowell Angel, she has run two very good races in stronger company at Belmont Park and comes down here today with a very good winning chance, possibly the barrier drawn may prove to be cruicial in this race, with Hallowell Angel in thirteen, not well drawn at all at the 1300metres start. The winner does really appear to come from either of these two fillies today. Miss Motown ran a much better race when switched to Northam last start, when fourth to Hurricane Hound and she may go on with it now, her first few starts weren’t anything to write home about, but they certainly were in a lot stronger fields than she will meet this afternoon. Love Magnate may also give you a sight for your novelties here, she raced well at Bunbury prior to Christmas last year and is returning to racing in this race today.

Numbers- 11-12-13-10

Suggested Bet- 11- Tristy Girl- Win

Race 3- Affordable Living Maiden- 1300metres

Once again we can probably narrow this race down to a few chances, its just a matter of getting them the right way around. I will go with Queen Of Quincy to finally break through for Lindsey Smith here, she has certainly been knocking at the door having been beaten very narrowly at her last two starts and this just might be the day, she does race close to the lead in her races, and she has drawn the inside barrier which should help her here, also claiming apprentice Jo Azzopardi takes the reins, which brings her down to 54kgs, it could be a deciding factor in this event. Ziva Star continues to race very well, she was also narrowly beaten last week at this track behind Days Like These, and has also drawn beautifully for this assignment today, with in form jockey Peter Knuckey on board, she should also be very hard to beat. The other with a big chance is Temples, he certainly enjoyed the trip down to Pinjarra and easier company last start when second to Swing, he has also drawn very well and has Paul Harvey on board again, but does give away 4kgs to Queen Of Quincy in this race. Just De Lovely made a good return to racing last week when a close third to Hurricane Hound at Northam, and must also be respected in what is a very good three year old maiden race. Hydroflight is another with some chance, he has run out of chances from me, but always looks as if he has bright prospects in any race he contests.

Numbers- 9-8-2-10

Suggested Bet- 9- Queen Of Quincy- Win

Race 4- Murray Rural Maiden- 1200metres

A very open maiden race here with another full field, which makes it difficult to predict anything with great confidence. Two Fish Heads was going to start a short priced favourite last start at Northam before being withdrawn at the barriers, so there is certainly a high opinion held of this horse. His two race starts have been quite impressive, both at Ascot last spring, and he did beat Caiguna in a trial previous to those starts so he will be the on top selection today. He has to overcome a horror draw so will need a little luck but on seemingly pure ability we will hope he can do so and give punters a good sight for their money. Plenty of chances in such a big field though and Free Geoffrey is certainly amongst those, he has been running some good races of late, he also has to overcome a very wide draw but does possess early speed and for followers of this gelding it is hoped Renee Forrest can get him across the front of the field early on. Master Robson is another that is sometimes around the place, his last start third to Tossa Dante was pretty good, and he does have an ideal draw in this race, which cant be said for most of his major opposition. Barge Thru does have some impressive trial form to his name and it is probably only a matter of time before that translates to race day, and Angel Wing is another that has shown ability in the past and may be worth a ticket each way in a very open race.

Numbers- 2-4-3-9

Suggested Bet- 2- Two Fish Heads- Each Way

Race 5- Rhino Water Tanks Handicap- 1200metres

Ghost Trader has been most impressive at his two race starts to date and can go on with it here this afternoon. He won his maiden at his first race start beating Saxon Knight that day and followed up with a good fourth to Grey Jabiru a couple of weeks after that. He has since had a slight let up but certainly looks to race well fresh and should go very close to winning this race today. The main opposition looks as if it will come from Miss Meyet, she won her maiden well down here at Pinjarra on May 2 and followed up that run with a good third at Belmont a week later, her last start ninth may have been better than it looked as she wasn’t that far from the winner also at Belmont on May 30. These two really do look the stand outs in this event. Novelty chances may be Bendit who has been racing well lately and the omen tip for the week Lovetherain, he won well last start at Northam, his form has been on the improve of late.

Numbers- 2-7-1-5

Suggested Bet- 2- Ghost Trader/7- Miss Meyet- Quinella

Race 6- Gate Bar and Bistro Handicap- 1200metres

The very promising mare Talk Up A Storm steps out today, she was most impressive in her previous campaign with a maiden victory at Northam and a very close runner up to Countess Panetti here at Pinjarra throughout the summer. She did have a trial in preparation for her return to the track last week so hopefully will put in a good first up effort today and should go very close to winning this race. She does tend to drop out in her races, so maybe the inside barrier isn’t really to her advantage but regular jockey Kyra Yuill will hopefully be able to get her to the outside early enough to run home over the top of these. Days Like These was an impressive winner at this track last week when winning his maiden at only his third race start, he tends to race near the front of the pack so it will be interesting to see if he can get across from an outside barrier today without burning up too much fuel. Couture Chik will certainly appreciate racing here at Pinjarra as she has been racing in much stronger company of late in the city, and the claim for apprentice Mitchell Pateman brings her well in on weights here, she can run a much improved race this afternoon. The Park Dancer may be best of the rest, another that tested the water in a far stronger field last start in Tiger Pete’s race at Belmont, this is much more suitable for him today.

Numbers- 7-4-1-5

Suggested Bet- 7- Talk Up A Storm- Win

Race 7- Andros Jewellers Handicap- 2000metres

The middle distance race of the day has thrown up a very difficult proposition for punters, and this is definitely a race to go wide in with your quaddies. You will certainly get value if you are having an investment in this race. With very little confidence I will go with the last start surprise winner Light Blitz to possibly make it two from two for trainer Craig Wright. This horse surprised at long odds last start and the trainer responded to questioning by stewards by saying the step up in distance was a major factor in the improvement shown that day, well she does go up another 400metres in distance here, so it will be interesting to see if she runs up to her last effort, I am thinking she just might. Plenty of chances in such an open race though, another that may improve over the 2000metres is You Want Suma Dis, his last start in Operational’s race at Belmont was an indication he is improving with racing, and he may run into a place this afternoon. Shoot For Glory will definitely improve on his last start effort in much stronger company behind True Gold at Belmont, that was probably far too strong for him at this stage in his career, and he will give you a sight here, with The Pupster, a last start Pinjarra winner and The Developer, who has been placed his last two starts also chances in the most open event of the day.

Numbers- 8-4-2-1

Suggested Bet- No Bet- Go wide in quaddies here

Race 8- Pinjarra Park Racing 28 June Handicap- 1500metres

This is probably the best event of the day to finish off the card with some good form exposed. Comfysofa has been racing well of late and is the selection here. He is making his debut at the Pinjarra track this afternoon but has been in very good form at Belmont and Bunbury of late, including a win at the provincial track back in January at his first race start and following that up with two useful runs at Belmont during the month of May. Back into provincial class today and drawn beautifully for regular jockey Troy Turner, he looks to be very well suited here. The Pinjarra specialist Nomunnofun looks to be the main opposition today, she has a superb record at this venue, and has also been racing quite well of late for local trainer Keith Jeffreys, she must be thrown into quaddies in this last leg. Friars Spirit raced very well last campaign before a poor run at Ascot last start, however she did have an abnormal blood count that day so it may pay to forgive that run and go on her previous efforts, and I Owe You has been quite consistent of late without winning and may run reasonably well again this afternoon, a good race to finish the days racing at Pinjarra here.

Numbers- 2-7-1-5

Suggested Bet- 2- Comfysofa- Win

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family
