GUMBYS GOSSIP- Belmont- 27th June

Big fields are the order of the day at Belmont this afternoon, it will certainly pay to go very wide in quaddie bets, they certainly look very difficult races, with the added possibility of rain throughout the day. There may be a couple of better bets early on the programme before we launch into those last few tougher races.

Race 1- Westspeed 3YO Maiden- 1400metres

Huge field and plenty of chances to open the days racing, our old mate Hydroflight ran a good second last start at Pinjarra and should appreciate the 1400metres today, once again we will suggest a small each way investement on him, surely he must win one sometime. Bridgewaters the main danger, has been placed three of five starts and also due to break through sooner rather than later. Others with chances look to be Farrock and Unique Jester, both placed behind Hallowell Angel last start at Pinjarra, and a watch on a trial winner in Fangio, won a trial by nearly four lengths just over a week ago, looks to have some ability.
Numbers- 11-2-4-3
Suggested Bet- 11- Hydroflight- Small Each Way Investment

Race 2- Westspeed Nursery Handicap- 1000metres
Passion Cantata won well at her race debut in February at Ascot, then ran under three lengths behind Darlington Abbey in the Magic Millions at her second race start, you would suggest if running up to that form she should win this race today. Angry Squatter beat Park Lane here two weeks ago, they may run the minor placings this afternoon, and another that is improving with racing for the Parnham stable is Hearts Desire, she ran fourth in Angry Squatters race and meets them both better on weights here this afternoon.
Numbers- 6-1-2-8
Suggested Bet- 6- Passion Cantata- Win

Race 3- Westspeed Nursery Handicap- 1000metres
Dueton should really just step out and win this race, may start at pretty short odds here but on his last two runs looks to be the testing material today. He is drawn beautifully and has everything in his favour in this. A couple that featured prominently in stewards reports last start are Satan On His Head and Chanteria, both had excuses on they should provide the most opposition to Dueton today. One at probable good odds might be Our Mantle, won a twelve horse trial very easily last week, and looks to have above average ability.
Numbers- 1-2-10-6
Suggested Bet- 1- Dueton- Win

Race 4- Westspeed 3YO Handicap- 1000metres
Geiger Rio has enormous ability, he started favourite at his last race start back on Christmas Eve in a field that contained Stacks On, if he has improved his somewhat erratic racing manners he may be very hard to beat first up this afternoon. Silver Sass has been racing well also, earning a cheque in all three of her starts to date, she will prove hard to beat in this race today. Lord Balthazar will appreciate the drop in class from his last few outings as well and should be considered a good place chance at least here, and Izjalu may be next best, form did dip before he went for a spell in March, but has a won first up before, so may pay to include him in novelty bets today.
Numbers- 4-7-2-1
Suggested Bet- 4- Geiger Rio- Win

Race 5- Westspeed 3YO Handicap- 1650metres
A very open race this one is, Foo Foo The Snoo finally seems to have found some good form that most punters knew he could produce, his last three starts have all produced good runs, should come in a couple of barriers as well with the probable scratching of the emergency runners, and may go well again today, you should get good each way odds about all of these runners here. Wecansay Mak looks to have a terrific future in front of him, he likes to lead in his races, whether he can get there without using up too much petrol from the very wide barrier is problematical, if he can do so, must be one of the better chances here as well. You Want Suma Dis won at Northam last week, will probably appreciate the 1650metre journey today, another you might like to throw into selections. Ziva Star won well last week at Northam, she has a very good record from her five race starts to date, another to consider in a very wide open affair here.

Numbers- 1-12-2-13
Suggested Bet- 1- Foo Foo The Snoo- Small Each Way Investment

Race 6- twitter.com/perthracing Handicap- 1650metres
Another wide open race here, we will go for Jackson Rocks each way after a terrific run last start behind Verdello blue in a stronger Saturday race, if he can run up to that effort should be very hard to beat today. November Red broke through for an overdue victory last start here at Belmont, he just might go on with it now and hold his form, not drawn very well but will probably drop back at the start anyway. Eastern Twister was a much improved run last start, has shown ability in the past and looks a good each way chance again today as does Rock Prince, a very consistent 6year old racing very well of late, also nicely drawn for trainer Steve Wolfe in this race.
Numbers- 9-2-6-7
Suggested Bet- 9- Jackson Rocks- Each Way

Race 7- playeronline.com.au Handicap- 1400metres
Big Josh returns today, he does have first up form having been placed three times when resuming, and he looks the class horse in this race. Drawn well and has the claim for apprentice Ryan Hill to bring him back to 58kgs, he should give you a great sight for your money this afternoon. Coolism has been in terrific form, his last two starts have been full of merit, he will have to overcome a poor draw today though. Another racing consistently is Times Are Changing, his last four starts have all brought cheques for the owners, and another one that is always around the place is Amberstroem, one for the quartet punters to consider putting into selections.

Numbers- 1-13-10-15
Suggested Bet- 1- Big Josh- Each Way

Race 8- perthracing.com.au Handicap- 1000metres
Another big field, another tough race here. Will go for Ysmael, he raced very well in his last preparation in these sorts of races and has drawn very well in this big field today, that must be an advantage over a lot of his rivals. Jaw Dropper is worth consideration, also first up today but he hasn't fared as well in the draw over the 1000metre scamper, but he has very good first up form to recommend him. Gavins Road has been racing consistently of late and must be considered a place chance, as must Twilight Hero on his last couple of efforts, he seems to have come back racing as well as he ever has done.
Numbers- 2-3-4-13

Suggested Bet- 2- Ysmael- Each Way

Race 9- tabozbet.com.au Handicap- 1200metres
Say Stars will be the selection here, she has had three runs this campaign and should be at her peak by now, she drops markedly in weight to 54.5kgs today, if apprentice Aaron Mitchell can hold his nerve she looks well suited in this race, drawn extremely well in another maximum field. Royal Rhapsody has been racing consistently on country tracks of late, first start in town today but she looks up to this class. Absolute Cracker ran two really good races before a last start failure, if we forgive her for that aberration she does come into this race with good claims. Pretty tough after that with the scratching of Planet Claire, but Tudor Royal might be one for the quartet punters to consider throwing in, she is first up today but has won at her return before.
Numbers- 2-10-8-3
Suggested Bet- 2- Say Stars- Each Way

Best Bet- Race 2 No 6 Passion Cantata
Race 3 No 1 Dueton

I've just heard that Kristy has got a flight home (Medivac) on Sunday. Her rehab will be long and agonising so as a passionate racing person myself I ask everyone to hope/pray for the best possible outcome for Kristy and the rest of her family

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...
