Tips for Belmont 14th July
Race 1:
The two year old race, I'm looking forward to more than any other on the card. The Rising impressed at trials, beating Culprit over 400m under a hold. Culprit has subsequently come out and trounced another trial field. Harvey on, I'm going to speculate on him however, The Millionaire was most impressive at Lark Hill and as mentioned on the forum, Hall is riding as light as ever to ride this. Detection is the one to beat, haivng the race experience. He did all the work in the Karrakatta, sitting outside the leader. Karaka Diamond looked impressive first up, but he did manage to tighten the entire field and virtually stop them in their tracks while laying in. I think the margin was flattering as a result and I'm willing to risk him here. Cherie Amour and even Angry Squatter are chances here. The Rising, Detection, The Millionaire.
Suggested Bet: The Rising each way.
Race 2:
Ive got my knocking boots on today and I'll be risking Modello in the second. He had all the favours in beating Tax A Million first up. Rebel Call has trialed twice this campaign and showed and enormous amount of ability as a two year old. He sat wide no cover in the Karrakatta a couple of years back, finishing close up to Night War. Shady Bet has put in two good runs this campaign and Scorn Saxon shouldnt be forgotten here. Back to 1000m with pace on, she can surprise. Tiger Pete put in his best effort over 1000m three starts back but this is harder. Rebel Call, Shady Bet, Modello.
Suggested Bet: Rebel Call each way
Race 3:
A tough race with no pace. I suspect they will try and get a cushy lead again with The Corporation after he got it easy to hang on under same conditions last start. He drops substantially in weight too and the $10 is over the odds. Raucous Laughter and Numerous Secrets might also push forward here which will no doubt help their chances. Lopov is the dark horse for Simon Miller, but I couldnt tip him. Frenchman will be all the rage in the betting ring, but if there is no pace and then persist in going back, he's a risk at the price. Likewise, the Underworld is a wind up horse with very little turn of foot. I can see him trying to spring and come round them, getting shunted wide. Cohort is my smokey, although he really does need a bit of pace. Frenchman, The Corporation, Cohort.
Suggested Bet: The Corporation each way at the double figures.
Race 4:
Another good little race where I couldnt find too much that would challenge Thunderluv'n for the lead. He found Bombora too sharp last start, but none of these are going as well as Bombora. Navarda Lad was a great run last start, even though he is a bit of a non winner, he'll get a great run in this. Dare to Doubt gets McGruddy back on, which is a huge riding change. Ysmael is capable of knocking them all out. A watch on Secret Ruler. Kersleys have improved out of sight the last month and we saw what happned last week with Operational when Harvey threw his leg over one. Watch the market. Loyalty is worth a spec at $41. Thunderluvn, Navarda Lad, Ysmael.
Suggeste Bet: Thunderluv'n each way if odds allow.
Race 5:
We'll assume Even Astar goes round in this race and adds to the up front pressure, along with Oviate and Miss Dandy. The latter is a tough mare and sitting outside the speed wont bothher her too much. Her chances depend on how fast they go. I'll tip Verscene. Three runs back this campaign have been fantastic and she gets a chance to win on a Saturday. Silver Omen will appreciate the pace but Mitchell Pateman will have to be at his best to guide her through the field. Sky Magic is always capable and Turner on is significant. Im knocking Tiffany Yellow, didnt like the last effort and thought something looked amiss. Verscene, Miss Dandy, Silver Omen.
No Bet.
Race 6:
A race I thought initially I'd be knocking Settle Strada due to the barrier and pace in the race. Upon reflection, he's a very smart horse and with Black Uma out, he can skip over here and lead or breeze and still win. True Gold can possie up a little closer than last time where he finished off well. I gave Lord Hatras a good chance at odds last time out, but we learned nothing with him sitting three wide. Today is his last chance for me with that man O'Donnell aboard. Cant say I like anything outside the top two in the market here. Settle Strada, True Gold, Lord Hatras.
Suggested Bet: Settle Strada each way and spec on Lord Hatras.
Race 7:
Another race I found it hard to tip outside the top two in the market. Precious Snippets is the class here. the slight concern is the one barrier as she does tend to drift back in running. Nomad on the other hand should get the moving line, about midfield. He looked all over the winner last start before Milken Whiskey emerged from the pack. Svara also looked the winner half way up the straight but peaked before narrowly going down to Morning MIst. The barrier is a concern, but she's the knockout chance here. I cant tip Milken Whiskey even though his run was good first up. I think he's best fresh.Precious Snippets, Nomad, Svara.
Suggested Bet: Precious Snippets at the $3.
Race 8:
Everyone has been saying it, I'll say it too, its a raffle. Tons of speed, lots of swoopers and plenty of 1000m speedsters and fresh form. I'll summarise the best I can. The Entourage looks up against it, but dont discount him with the 60kg, he has the class. Megem's Boy, Mantango, Let's Go Secret, Desire Path and Final Cut are the swoopers. Right Time and Lee Rani are the 1000m speedsters. Sunsilkin, on her form two campaigns back, can win a race like this, I cant tip her, but I'll back her at the big odds along with Let's Go Secret, Final Cut and Mantango. For the sake of tipping, Ill give you Megem's Boy, Desire Path, Final Cut.
Suggested Bet: take a quartet and back a few roughies.

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...
