GUMBYS GOSSIP- Pinjarra- Thursday 26th July

Nine events today at Pinjarra, should be a good afternoon of winter racing. The recent spell of fine days should see a good track for the nine event card. Race 8 looks the highlight race, with some good form exposed by quite a few of the runners engaged in that event.

Race 1- "Read It In The Mail" Maiden- 1200metres
This looks to be a race in three with Tungsten, Gladstone and Bantry Belle the main chances here. Difficult to split them but will go with Bantry Belle, a good run last week at Northam behind Grand Crusade, she does have a little more race experience on her side than her main rivals here. Gladstone and Tungsten should also give you a sight for your money today, both coming off good runs at their last starts as well. Another Bell won a trial at Lark Hill last week and may be next best for quartet punters here.
Numbers- 7-2-1-3
Suggested Bet- 7- Bantry Belle- Each Way

Race 2- Mandurah Mail Classifieds Maiden- 1200metres
Corella has been going very well in trials in preparation for her first race start and just might prove to be a good each way bet this afternoon from an ideal draw in barrier three. This Flying Pegasus filly looks a good ride for Kyra Yuill today. The main danger must be Strike Two, who ran into a good one last week when running second, and must also be a chance to break through this afternoon. Another from the same trial as Corella is Flying Flynn, it is his first race start today also and might go pretty well, with the best of the rest possibly Lucky Hazel, who has had a let up since running a fair fourth at her first race start back in February.

Numbers- 7-1-3-6
Suggested Bet- 7- Corella- Each Way

Race 3- Rural Press Maiden- 1600metres
I'm Outta Here and Heaven Tonight both come out of the same race at their last start when they ran the placings behind Aplorable here on Jul 12. I will tip I'm Outta Here to bring home the bacon this afternoon, there isn't a lot to split them and maybe it will be who runs out a strong 1600metres in the end. I'm Outta Here has a pretty good draw although not a big factor at the 1600metre barriers. Tilla Chance ran an improved race in the same field last start when fifth in that race, she is probably the next best here. A maddie for a minor might be Simply Sally, a reasonable run behind Ziva Star before racing in too good a field last start at Belmont.

Numbers- 6-5-1-11
Suggested Bet- 6- I'm Outta Here- Win

Race 4- Mandurah Mail Sports Maiden- 1300metres
Nozomi's Lover made an auspicious debut when a runner up here two weeks ago, and there is a good chance he can go one better this afternoon. He has drawn perfectly for this assignment and looks to have a fair bit of ability judged on that first start plus some good trial form leading up to that race. Irish Sovereign ran third in the same race at his last start, so looks the main danger today, he is another that should break his maiden status shortly. Rory's Magic has run a couple of reasonable races at her last two starts and could be around the place this afternoon, with possibly Diggers Reward the best of the remainder here.

Numbers- 2-3-10-5
Suggested Bet- 2- Nozomi's Lover- Win

Race 5- Mandurah Mail- Supporting Local Business Maiden- 1300metres
Scamandrius ran a very good race when resuming here two weeks ago when a close second to In Plain Sight and allowing for further improvement today can go close to winning this race. He should come into barrier ten with the probable scratchings of the emergency runners, so it isn't such a bad draw as it may look on paper. He charged home last start over the 1200metres so the extra 100metres today is certainly in his favour. Leggy Blonde ran a pretty good race first up this campaign when fourth to Aplorable here at the last meeting, and looks to be one of the major players in this race as well. Others with claims look to be Rakuroo, he is racing consistently of late and possibly Spirytus may improve today and run a good race also.
Numbers- 2-10-5-9
Suggested Bet- 2- Scamandrius- Win

Race 6- www.mandurahmail.com.au Maiden- 1300metres
A tough race this one, but will go with Diamond from the Simon Miller stable at what may be each way odds here. This isn't an overly strong field at all and he might be able to give you a good sight for your money here. A lot of these Miller trained horses seem to go well at their first couple of starts on country tracks. Diamond did run a good trial behind Dusock a couple of weeks ago and has in form jockey Peter Knuckey on board today. Lequest was a little disappointing last week at Northam but her previous run was full of merit, might be best to go on that effort. Revolution has run some good races in her previous runs and might be the best of the others here, with Toorak Deb and Let Me Tell You amongst the novelty chances.

Numbers- 9-5-6-7
Suggested Bet- 9- Diamond- Each Way

Race 7- Mandurah Mail- Working with the Community Handicap- 1500metres
Invidious is racing in a good vein of form at present and looks to be hard to beat in this race today. He hasn't been unplaced in his last five starts, all at this track as well, and may chalk up another victory here this afternoon. Peter Knuckey hops on board and it may continue a good afternoon for him. Black Burberry finally won his maiden at Northam at his last start and he may continue his improvement so expect a good showing from him in this race. Friars Spirit was disappointing last start but there may have been excuses that day, best to go on her previous effort at Belmont. Rock Bar is ever consistent without winning many but looms as a good hope for novelty punters today.
Numbers- 1-2-10-5
Suggested Bet- 1- Invidious- Win

Race 8- Editors Cut Handicap- 1400metres
Hollister has built up a good record over his seven start career and it may well improve more so after today. His run last week at Northam was another good one when winning his second race and he should go on with it here and probably is one of the better bets of the day. Nomunnofun is a track specialist here at Pinjarra and always runs a good race and should do so again, he is certainly one of the more consistent performers going around. Bedamijo won well last start here two weeks ago and also represents a good place chance today, with Tellem Ya Dreamin another with prospects of finishing in the money here. A good race this one.
Numbers- 4-2-10-9
Suggested Bet- 4- Hollister- Win

Race 9- Racing at Pinjarra 9th August Handicap- 1300metres
Another good race to finish the programme today with quite a few chances. Will go with Finnegans Gold on an each way basis here, his last few starts before a spell were quite good, and with Paul Harvey to take the mount today, he will be certainly one of the major players in this event. He should sprint well fresh so look for a good performance from this horse today. Windinthepillows does find it extremely hard to win, and seems to always be the bridesmaid and will possibly have to settle for another minor placing this afternoon, but is certainly one that should be around the place in this event. Five Fields won well last start and she may go on with things now she has broken the duck, and one with very good first up form is Time To Front, may be worth checking the prices close to start time and having a ticket each way on her if at good odds.
Numbers- 2-1-10-6
Suggested Bet- 2- Finnegans Gold- Each Way

Best Bet- Race 5 No 2 Scamandrius
Race 8 No 4 Hollister

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...
