Tips for Beaufine Stakes Day 28th July

Matt Rigby | Sat 28 July, 2012

Race 1:

This is a great little race for the last 2yo event of the year. The Rising was impressive first up in smashing his rivals on debut. The barrier makes it trickier here, but Harvey will adapt, probably by sitting here. Culprit, Flying Time and Fast Spring will ensure a good tempo. Karratha Crossing and even Karaka Diamond can be running on, but I'm tipping The Rising from Karratha Crossing and Flying Time.

No Bet

Race 2:

Its an average lot running around for the $40k purse here. Galiletto should get the front and be hardest to run down, but the price on offer is probably a bit short. Endless Time would definitely be suited by more pace, but her run last time out in similar circumstances was excellent. The Weapon has only ever disappointed and his trials did nothing to change that for me. Seth's Blessed could go OK after a let up here and I'd be watching the market. Not a race you'd want to get involved in. Galiletto, Endless Time, Seth's Blessed.

No Bet

Race 3:

Another dangerous race due to lack of pace. If I could guarantee Turner would lead on Doutable, it might even be my tip, but anything could happen. Frenchman is hard to knock and The Corporation should go forward again and meets Frenchman much better for being beaten only narrowly last time they met. Jobeth is the sneaky one at odds for me. Just Wicked will be the short priced favourite again and she's a good hope as is Fortescue Flyer. Its not an easy race. Just Wicked, Frenchman, Doutable.

No bet

Race 4:

Another interesting staying race, but with no pace. Better Than Darcy has found some legs for Kellie Kersley and probably was unlucky to win last start. Staeck goes on and so do I. Ill tip him from Ask Me Nicely and Verdello Blue. Starlight Lady is way over the odds at $19 and worth a spec, especially with Harvey aboard. Better Than Darcy, Ask Me Nicely, Starlight Lady.

Suggested Bet: Better than Darcy each way, spec on Starlight Lady

Race 5:

True Gold will be all the rage here after going down narrowly to Settle Strada last time out. Black Uma however, should roll across to the lead and I'm going to tip him to upset the favourite. Toned had very good eastern states form, but comes from the Lloyd Williams yard and they usually dont sell them without problems. I'll forgive Angel Wing, who we tipped last start. She can possie up better here which gives her a chance. Likewise, Mystic Dust is no 50/1 shot. Black Uma, True Gold, Angel Wing.

Suggested Bet: Black Uma each way.

Race 6:

We have to go down the bottom to find the best chances here. Settle Strada will just get the easy lead and its hard to tip against him. While Precious Snippets seems better suited back at the 1200m, she'll probably get out of her ground and be flashing home. Mangango can improve, Side Splitter trialed very well and Stompin is a smokey too. Final Cut has put in two great runs but will get way back here. Tiger Pete likewise. Settle Strade, Precious Snippets, Final Cut.

Suggested Bet: Settle Strada at the $2.60.

Race 7:

Werd will jump and cross them easily, lead and roll here. Thats where he likes it best and he'll be the one to run down. Right Time is the up and comer, but Staples has some quick thinking to do here. Noname City will push forward, as will Latoria. That may leave him sitting wide or pulling out of the speed contest. If they go mad, a swooper might just knock them out. Im tipping the speed machine Werd from Right Time and Le Sacre.

Suggested Bet: Werd each way.

Race 8:

Thunderluvn will get the rails here and would have won last start but for Pateman letting him drift off at the turn. There is pressure however from Inok, Oviate and even Pure Heaven. Verscene has been impressive and will get the good run again here. Ill tip her again from Thunderluvn and Dare To Doubt. Ysmael also a chance if they go hard enough. It could be one of those races where they all opt out of the speed battle, which leaves Thunderluvn the one. Take care.

Suggested Bet: Verscene Each way.

Race 9:

A tough one to finish the day. There's a ton of pace again via My Rouge, Tax A  Million and South Boulder Boy. Im going for the swoopers, which i have done at my peril a few times in the last month. Gavin's Road was desperately unlucky last time out and won well before that. Let's Go Secret had no hope, getting back in the Right Time race. Ill tip those two from Hi Kilmore. Tax A Million is the lay of the day at the price.

Suggested Bet: Gavins Road each way, save on Let's Go Secret.

My thoughts...Logistically, a trainer getting to the races for a 9am start would be extremely difficult to achieve on a routine basis when travel time & having to be clocked in on course 1 hour before their race at 9am, is taken into consideration. Not to ...
