Top jockey Jason Whiting selected well when he guided up and coming galloper Amelias Dancer ($3.80) to a narrow victory over Belora in the $100,000 Focus Minerals Coolgardie Cup at Kalgoorlie.

Whiting rode Amelias Dancer to an impressive victory second-up when he lumped the 60kg topweight to beat Doutable in over 1650m at Belmont Park on August 11.

This was Whiting's first Coolgardie Cup victory, the $100,000 featureon today's 7 race program.

Luciani said Amelias Dancer was at the end of his campaign when he ran fourth to Reverend Lovejoy in last year's Boulder Cup (1760m) at Kalgoorlie.

"It was a bit of an afterthought but this year Kalgoorlie has been his aim," Luciani said.

Reverend Lovejoy kicked off his final campaign for his owners in the Coolgardie Cup, however could only manage 11th beaten 9 lengths.

The iron-tough nine-year-old has been a proven performer during carnival time, having won a cups double in 2009. He also won the 2011 version of the Boulder Cup.
