Ascot R1. Budget Rent A Truck Sprint Review
1000m | 12:20PM
A tough race to start the day with only 6 horses competing in this 1000m event. The punters were keen on Tiger Pete who started favourite, but Dueton got some late support on track with its drop in weight.
Rouge Dior jumped out very well but was taken on early by Dueton. These two started the race at a hectic pace and managed to put a nice break on Tiger Pete and Beach Express coming into the bend. Tiger Pete took the turn very awkwardly and Rouge Dior managed to kick away to have a handy lead. Dueton couldn’t run on and finished dead last, but it was Beach Express who managed to kick well and get in front of Rouge Dior just before the line.
Results
1. 4 BEACH EXPRESS $10.20/$3.90
2. 5 ROUGE DIOR $2.70
3. 1 NONAME CITY
Horse to follow:
Noname City – This horse didn’t get away to the best start and was last in the early stages. It entered the bend still in last spot with plenty to do. As it hit the straight it got caught behind the tiring Dueton and the jockey had to pull it to the rails were it raced home well and got home to finish third. This was a positive run and a horse to watch.

2100m | 1:05PM
The punters wanted only one horse and that was Operational. This horse had been inform for a while but couldn’t continue its winning ways.
Jim ‘n’ Jim made an absolute meal of the start and missed it by 3 lengths. Reprisal, Winehorse and Kim Classic all got away well and took the early running. With 1500m to go Reprisal led by a length over Winehorse and Electioneer who had settled in a nice spot. Operational had also set up in a great spot and Jim ‘n’ Jim had moved up after its bad start. As they ran past the 600m Reprisal had a 2 length lead over Winehorse and Operational. Parnham tried to get Operational to kick up to play a part as they went around the bend. As they hit the straight Reprisal had pulled away even further but it was Jim ‘n’ Jim who ducked around the horses to get on the rail and flew home to race past Reprisal. The favourite could only manage fourth.
Results
1. 7 JIM ‘n’ JIM $4.30/$1.60
2. 1 REPRISAL $3.90
3. 5 ELECTIONEER $2.80
Horse to follow:
Jim ‘n’ Jim – This horse had an incredibly bad start but was able to work itself back into the race nicely. As it hit the home turn it worked up into a nice spot, then had to duck onto the rails and was able to show a nice turn of speed as it raced past the other horses. A very nice performance and a horse to follow.

1600m | 1:45PM
This race was a very open one for punters. California Dude started favourite at nice each way odds, but there was late money for Trading Day (a horse we had said to follow).
Lord Hatras jumped away very well and managed to cross the field for the lead. Antoccino and Fair Exchange also got away well and settled just off the speed. With 1000m to go Lord Hatras still led from Antoccino, Fair Exchange who had the box seat sitting third with cover and Red Mercedes was on the outside in fourth. As they started the bend, Antoccino moved around Lord Hatras, and the favourite California Dude started its run wide. At the top of the straight Antoccino went for the finish line and was being pursued by Fair Exchange and Red Mercedes. Trading Day start a massive run from out wide and was giving chase. Red Mercedes hit the front and was joined by Trading Day who couldn’t quite get there.
Results
1. 3 RED MERCEDES $7.40/$2.30
2. 8 TRADING DAY $2.10
3. 9 WONORG $2.40
Horse to follow:
Trading Day – We marked this horse as one to follow from its last start and we will stay with it. It flew home again but just couldn’t quite get there. As I said last time, this horse will win soon, and while we are getting $2’s for places, I’ll stay with it.
Ascot R4. Supremacy Stakes Review
1100m | 2:25PM
Petrol Power went into this race as a big favourite after its impressive run in the Magic Millions.
Petrol Power was the first to jump away with Busimiss. Wrap me up and Coruscation sat just behind the pace as they all settled well. Petrol Power was well held by Carbery as it wanted to run at the 600m mark. Danny Rip strode quickly around horses on the bend to join Petrol Power, Busmiss and Coruscation. Carbery called on Petrol Power to kick as Busmiss had managed to put its head in front. Petrol Power responded well to get its head back in front and then just hold out Busimiss in a race between two.
Results
1. 2 PETROL POWER $1.60/$1.10
2. 8 BUSIMISS $1.60
3. 1 DANNY RIP $1.80
Horses to follow:
Petrol Power – This horse is going places. It was the eye catcher from the Magic Millions race and showed why today. Definitely one to put in the black book.
Busimiss – This horse has talent and no one ever dismissed that. However, I don’t think many expected such a performance like today. This horse showed speed, fight and determination and for that it goes straight into the black book.
Ascot R5. Schweppes-t.j. Smith Trophy Review
1600m | 3:05PM
With the late scratching of the favourite Express Service, Western Blaze and Sireeze moved into favourites. Sireeze was a horse that we said to follow in recent reviews and saluted for punters. Before the scratching of Express Service, Sireeze was at $5’s fixed.
Saturday Skies jumped away quickly and came across the field to get the lead on the rail. Zedspiel raced up to second and Sireeze had got to third on the rail. Rio Rancher was stuck three wide and couldn’t find away to get in. As they went around the bend Saturday Skies still had the lead from Zedpsiel, but it was Sireeze who was looking the best and ready to put a run in on the straight. Saturday Skies kicked away but Sireeze was pulled around it by Turner and kicked away to win easily from a massive line of horses fighting for second position.
Results
1. 6 SIREEZE $2.50/$1.40
2. 5 WESTERN BLAZE $1.40
3. 2 SATURDAY SKIES $3.00
Horse to follow:
None suggested – Keep following Sireeze as I suggested in past reviews.
Ascot R6. Budget Rent A Car-ascot 1000 Guineas Review
1800m | 3:40PM
Antique Belle would start favourite again for this race. This horse has been favourite for most of its races but hadn’t saluted for punters. Again this horse would hurt its followers as Moreish cashed in at nice odds.
With such a big field, it took time for the horses to sort themselves out. Romany Bel and Angel Rose managed to get to the lead from Passion Cantata and Keg Mouse. Keg Mouse continued to push and joined Romany Bel for the lead. Antique Belle had no luck and was stuck three wide so was pushed right up to the leaders with Romany Bell and Keg Mouse as they entered the straight. Antique Belle grabbed the lead after doing a mountain of work, but it was Moreish who steamed home from the tail of the field to just get in front of the favoutite Antique Belle before the line.
Results
1. 6 MOREISH $36.40/$7.60
2. 1 ANTIQUE BELLE $1.40
3. 11 KIM CHINA $3.60
Horses to follow:
Moreish – This horse was an absolute mile back around the bend. However, its turn of speed and fight was super impressive as it won at nice odds. Do not throw this horse straight into your black books, but definitely watch its next run to see if it can back this performance up.
Super Friared – Just like Moreish, this horse rattled home late from the back half of the field and was the eye catcher out wide. It may want a little more distance, but I’ll be on this horse next start especially in a smaller field where it won’t have to go so wide to get a run.
Ascot R7. Budget Bus Rentals Sprint Review
1200m | 4:20PM
Mia China Doll was all the rage coming into this race and wouldn’t let punters down saluting at $1.80
Mia China Doll off the rails was the first to go and held out Times Are Changing who came across from a wide position. Carbery had to push Mia China Doll a bit harder as Times Are Changing continually tried to get in front, while Black Felix sat on the rails just behind them with Catalantic on the fence. As they started the turn, Mia China Doll wanted to take off but was well held by Carbery. Catlantic pulled out three wide to chase after Mia China Doll, which responded well and kicked away to win comfortably from Fighters Second who flew home late.
Results
1. 6 MIA CHINA DOLL $1.80/$1.30
2. 10 FIGHTERS SECOND $2.30
3. 3 CATLANTIC $3.10
Horses to follow:
Mia China Doll – this horse is an obvious horse to follow, but should still be one that punters continue to back.
Ascot R8. Budget Rent A Car Sprint Review
1200m | 5:00PM
An even race to finish the day at Ascot. Roman Knows was the favourite but a few were supported including Born To Excel and Red Hot Sax. On track, Born To Excel received the most support out of the three.
Roman Knows, Free Time and Born To Excel all jumped away well and fought for the lead. Free Time and Born to Excel kept fighting from the wide barriers to finally get the lead from Roman Knows who sat just behind them on the rail. As they went around the bend, Free time had got a small buffer on Born To Excel and Roman Knows. Roman Knows bit its time and opened up nicely to kick away easily from the field. Born to Excel gave chase but couldn’t get anywhere near it and True Gold ran on to get third.
Results
1. 3 ROMAN KNOWS $3.00/$1.50
2. 5 BORN TO EXCEL $1.80
3. 7 TRUE GOLD $2.40
Horses to follow:
Roman Knows – Just like Mia China Doll, this horse should be one that you are already following. It’s a classy horse that showed how impressive it can be in this race.
Italics names are for horses I have said to follow in prior meets.
