Barakey fine, J.Brown gutted news

Barakey fine, J.Brown gutted

Perth Turf Talk | Metropolitan Racing | Sat 23 February, 2013

Talented rider Jason Brown may have come off worse than our sprinting superstar, Barakey, after today's Oakleigh Plate.

Barakey maintained his perfect record but for all the wrong reasons.

Withdrawn at the barriers after appearing startled from an incident in the barriers, stewards withdrew the Key Business gelding minutes before the jump. A race that was won by an unlikely hope in Mr Onassis after money poured for the unbeaten star.

Barakey is now likely to target to the Newmarket, where he'll likely meet Queensland star Better Than Ready. Black Caviar will not be there to challenging for a first defeat after receiving 61.5kg.

The horse in the barrier next to him has not been highlighted as a "barrier rogue" just got fractious on the day. The horse and the connections were entitled to have their horse thoroughly vetted. Just bad luck for Barakey. But as I said earlier he has flippe...

They should just do what the Black Caviar mob do, get special treatment and no barrier rogues near him.

I was watching and thought he was the last to go in...then the other one played up, so they dragged it out...then he went off. So I think they did give him special (which is normal) treatment, but the other one going off caught them all out.

Barakey has gone off in the gates in WA, and "as a superstar" has been allowed to load late when here. Does not get the same treatment in Melbourne has to load in order, it would have always been a concern for the trainer.

In big metropolitan meetings they really need to take a leaf out of Hong Kong's far superior book and unload the horses and delay the start of the race so betting can be sorted out when a favourite is scratched in the gates. This was a quaddie leg and the rac...
