Barakey vs Travinator............who wins?
With Barakey recording his tenth straight win in emphatic style in yesterday's Colonel Reeves, he threw out the challenge to the horse many are touting as some serious opposition for this year's Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot.
Barakey smashed a moderate field in the Colonel Reeves (1100m), but that field still contained Werd and Waratah's Secret, two horses who have not been disgraged in the Winterbottom in previous years.
Colin and Daniel Pearce sat down at the drawing board on Sunday and had a re-think about the direction their stable star Travinator would take after his devastating victory in the 1000m Auto Classic Sprint last Saturday. That was an ordinary bunch he beat, but he didnt just beat them, he crushed them. Disregarding the opposition, it was the time of 56.77 on a rain affected track with closing sectional of 33.02 which raised eyebrows. Should Travinator manage the 1200m of the Winterbottom, he looks a live chance to knock off the undefeated Barakey.
Travinator's only real failure was at 1200m at the end of his last campaign.
Marty Young has once again been busy conjuring interest in WA's richest sprint from our Eastern States Rivals. Buffering, Hallowell Belle, Sea Siren and Pinwheel are hoped to be flying over, but as we know from previous years, no one is confirmed until the plane takes off from the east.
The Barakey vs Travinator story has been unfolding in the background and adds another dimension to the interest in this race, outside of whom is coming from the east.
Perth Racing would be delighted the way things are turning out.

so barakey actually went up a good level on my numbers this time i note. still, it looked to me like he had to work to earn it, and i need to have a bit each way, just in case he gives travinator windburn!

I guess I can throw it back as question - My assumption is the ability to keep producing individual figures (i think you refer to them speed/class) gets harder as you go up grades - because other runners influence performance? So far both have essentially p...

Trav to beat Barakey, but both to get rolled if an actual G1 sprinter comes over. I wish I could get more enthused about this race but I think it could be one of the more boring, anti-climactic Group races I've had the displeasure of following the lead up t...

as far as the east goes, from what i have seen of buffering(and it was only one run where sea siren won), i wouldn't be too concerned if i had a very good wa horse and the contest was on my home ground. dunno about the others. anyway as for travinator and ...
