Bartholomew lobbies for improvement to APN pricing
The meeting was attended by representatives from APN, The Australian Bookmakers Association, NSW Bookmakers Co-op and Racing NSW.
The main issue was the relevence of the current APN market for the majority of country race meetings where only a small number of bookmakers were in attendance. Currently the APN tansmits prices from only the on course bookmakers. In many cases, the small number or non existence of bookmakers at those meetings means a market of very high percentage is transmitted and has little relevance to the actual market, which is made up of many "off course" bookmakers.
The proposal is to develop a "virtual ring" from which to assess a market. This ring would include current oncourse and internet bookmakers who independently set a market. The assessing criteria would be to use the second highest price from all the bookmakers included, to form a more accurate market.
