Get aboard the Night Train

Matt Rigby | Metropolitan Racing | Tue 11 September, 2012

Three year old Commands filly, Night Train, returns to racing tomorrow at Belmont Park after an impressive trial last Monday where she showed a blistering turn of foot to cover her rivals easily.

The Darren McAulliffe trained filly has been to the races just once, last year in a 1100m 2yo handicap, where she had to be dragged back to last from her wide gate, was held up in the straight and rattled home to finish just behind Master Panon in a closing sectional of 34.05 seconds.

Her trial over 1000m on September 3 demonstrated she had a "go" button, O'Donnell sitting back and wide before asking her for an effort and she covered the field with ease in a few short strides.

She could be yet another talented three year old to emerge out of the Belmont Park season alongside Jestpatim, The Rising and Grey Cheval.

Nitpicking . . Oroya Gold ran 2nd in the Hannans. You're right darkshines. He ran 2nd in the Belmont Sprint as well (to Marasco). So he actually placed in 6 group and listed races as an older horse. He did also win 4 city races to age 5 and $438,000 but as ...

Depends what you call high quality.Just looking at KK placegetters from 2003-2011 (9 years) that have gone on to win stakes races in subsequent years, there's:2003 - Shout From Maroof (won Hong Kong International Sprint Gr 1 and placed 4 other Group races...

Pegase had one massive win that you missed, I think  he was sold to Asia for $800,000. Essentially all those listed won more than $200,000 so they had a bit of depth to them. Granted that some did it all or near enough to all as 2yo's, neverthel...

Last year's winner of the Karrakatta Plate / Sires Produce double, Luke's Luck, is being talked about as a potential stallion prospect. I did a search through the last 20 years and only Umah stood as a stallion. Unfortunately he wasn't much of a hit only seein...
