Hannan's and Boulder Cup run but not without drama
After the disaster that was Boulder Cup Day last weekend, the gremlins appeared once again in an attempt to sabotage Kalgoorlie's second biggest race day, the Hannan's Handicap.
With the track issues out of the way and the track tested earlier in the week, a power failure just prior to the running of race three, left most punters literally, in the dark.
Dividends were not declared for sometime after the race, even though it was clearly won by Donnyonetime. Before most punters knew it, the fourth was run and won by the red hot favourite Galaxon.
The jinxed Boulder Cup was finally run and Dashing Danny Miller added some excitement to what are normally pretty standard affairs in WA staying races. Taking off with a wing on every hoof, Dashing Dan and Big Ted broke the field open by as much as 12 lengths before capitulating in the straight to leave Belora, the best positioned runner, sitting third throughout, to run away with a comprehensive victory.
The Hannans Handicap was a good betting affair with the top three Texan ($4.80 - $5.50), Colour Correct ($4.80 - $6 - $5) and Bombora ( $3.30 - $3.60) the three that dominated the betting.
Texan zipped to the front from his wide gate and set a decent clip up front with Bombora working into the race turning for home. Colour Correct was lost back on the fence with Reimbursement, Zester and Our Ol' Fella swooping late. With 100m to go, it looked as though Texan had done too much work, but in his trademark style, he kicked strongly and held them all off, defeating Reimbursement and Zester a head and a neck.
Texan has dominated in the West since venturing over from NSW, winning 7 of 13 starts for Adam Durrant.
The Kalgoorlie Boulder Racing Club now head to their stand alone Cup Day, scheduled for Saturday and will no doubt be hoping for and uneventful day, perhaps with the exception, the Cup result!

@Shorty - if you place a lost ticket claim at the TAB, all you should need is the approx time you placed the bet, amount of $ wagered on which selection and which TAB outlet your bet was placed at - my understanding is the TAB can then identify your bet a...

Why can't the essential services like Tote, vision and communications etc have a back-up power supply? Surely in that neck of the woods you'd have access to some huge diesel generators. Why couldn't the stewards after realising there was a power outage de...

It's time for the WA TAB to pull up stumps. Had a bit of a dip at Desire Path at what would have been 2 minutes past start time. After it lost I threw my ticket out. A bit like a thousand other punters. How are the WA TAB going to refun...
