Hay List on the way back news

Hay List on the way back

Perth Turf Talk | Metropolitan Racing | Tue 23 July, 2013

It an encouraging report from trainer John McNair after Hay List was runner-up in a Randwick barrier trial on Friday.

Hay List hasn’t raced since battling a hoof injury behind Black Caviar in the G1 T J Smith Stakes at Randwick in April. “I was stunned how well he went,” McNair said after the hit-out. “What pleased me more was that Glyn (Schofield) said his action was lovely – he’s like the Hay List of old.

“There’s still a way to go fitness-wise. He’s 620kg and will race at 600kg. We will start off in Sydney and then go to Melbourne for races like the Manikato Stakes.”

Hay List won his first 8 races in a row in Perth. He graduated to a G1 in the 2010 Manikato at Moonee Valley and his other victories at that level have been in the 2011 All-Aged Stakes and 2012 Newmarket Hcp. A homebred for Terry, Liz Peter and Kate Davenport, he has overcome a series of health issues to earn over $2.55 million in prizemoney.

The owners have developed his family from Marscay mare Pucesca. She tailed off in two starts at Bunbury in 1991 before being whisked off to stud.

Hay List’s dam Sing Hallelujah arrived in 1996 and she won four races at Belmont. Hay List was her first winner and he was followed by the Central Coast winners Golden Statue (Statue of Liberty) and Sound Of The Ocean (Delzao).

The mare has an unraced 2yo gelding Hay One and a yearling colt, both by Statue of Liberty. She was an early cover for So You Think last year.

Let's not hear that the owners a flogging a dead horse. I would love to see him back. Imagine if he racked up a few good wins now that nelly is in the barn. Imagine if the connections of Nelly had the guts to race him under hanicap  conditions? ...

IF he is 100% he could easily win those straight races at Flemington - but that is a big IF.

Not much out there at the minute, struggling to think who's going to star in the Spring except that Melbourne Cup freak
