Kingston Town an enthralling contest
After a truly Super Saturday at Ascot last weekend and a number of lesser lights "stepping up" to the plate in winning their respective events, the Kingston Town Classic is looming as an enthralling race.
Mr Moet threw out the challenge with his first up win in the Railway Stakes. To win first up at the mile in a Group 1 was an incredible achievement for both Mr Moet and young trainer Adam Durrant. Not even Grant Williams with the more seasoned Ranger could achieve such high standards.
Durrant issued a further challenge when his up and coming stayer Chester Road trounced his opposition first up on Saturday over 1400m. He becomes a likely second stringer for the Kingston Town and slips into the market ahead of the previously more fancied King Saul, Wall Street, Maschino and Lukes Luck.
Luckygray heads the market and rightly so after another excellent run in the Railway, where he failed by 3/4 lengths to run down the lightly weighted Mr Moet. In the back of our minds however was Luckygray's failure in this race last year before heading to the paddock.
Add to the mix Playing God and God Has Spoken, who both ran decent races in the Railway, finishing fourth and fifth. In true Neville Parnham stlye, both seem to be working their way into form and fitness approaching their carnival goals.
The three year olds add a different formline through the likes of Antique Belle, Fuddle Dee Duddle and Rebelson. All will be up against it in beating the older horses at this stage of their careers.
The Eastern States brigade are sadly lacking this year. Fat Al looks at the end of his tether, Shamardashing was disappointing in a weaker assignment last weekend and Wall Street had his chance in the Railway if good enough.
The Kinsgston Town (1800m) will be run on December 8.
