Luckygray on the drift news

Luckygray on the drift

Matt Rigby | Metropolitan Racing | Fri 9 November, 2012

Luckygray is back in the WAROA Lee Steere Stakes after a failed campaign in Victoria earlier this year.

Opening at odds on in most markets, as much as $2.15 is now available on Luckygray, who has drifted heavily since markets opened on Thursday.

There must be doubt over the quick turnaround since his last run which was in the Memsie Stakes on September 1 where Luckygray over raced and failed to come on, beaten seven lengths by Sincero.

Of course, the Gino Poletti trained gelding has never been beaten first up and his first up run last campaign was outstanding, careering away from all his rivals in the Roma Cup to win by 3 1/2 lengths.

Luckygray will have stiffer opposition in the Lee Steere, the likes of last start Northerly winner, King Saul, Karrakatta and Sires Produce winner Lukes Luck, Asian Beau victor Westriver Kevydon and last year's Cox Stakes winner God Has Spoken.

The early moves have been for Luke's Luck ($5), who gets a 6kg advantage from the grey, having been beaten only narrowly first up in he Prince of Wales behind Power Princess. Westriver Kevydon opened and is steady at $5.

Happy to wager Luke's Luck goes to the Railway. Gets an extra kg on LG, and with 16 horses in - anything can happen with gates. Not drawing 1 will do him a huge favour, and with a feather weight on, and the extra 200m...... Owner is a punter, and would ra...

I had the impression that the horse was not coming to WA unless sold. Asking $550,000 incl GST was just too much and equated to more than the winning stake for the Owner after deductions for Trainer & Jockey, for winning the Railway. That pretty well just left...

Couldn't imagine the Railways was ever a serious option...may have been a nice thought but nothing else.
