Luckygray to spell after Memsie failure
Jockey Shaun O'Donnell believes that only a short time in the paddock after Luckygray's dominant winter in Perth, led to his downfall in the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
Luckygray was put into the race at the 600m mark, but didn't track into the race like O'Donnell would have hoped, dropping off to finish 11th.
He will now return to Balmoral Park for a spell, most likely for the rest of the year and return for another tilt at the Melbourne riches next year.
This means he will be unlikely to defend his title in the Railway Stakes, a race a lot of people would like to see him win in order to bury the question marks put on last year's victory over He's Remarkable.

What a stunning turnaround in fortunes for this horse. If this story is factual, it has been a very costly excursion for connections. Let's hope for everyone involved they can turn him around next year.
