Magic Millions to go black type

Perth Turf Talk | Australian Racing | Mon 13 August, 2012

Magic Millions reports that both Perth Magic Millions Classic races for two year olds and three year olds will gain restricted listed status from next year, joining two others that are already recognised in this light.

In addition, the 2yo Classic at Wyong and the Magic Millions Cup at Gold Coast, will also receive the new status.

The new listing means that horses like Playing God, Night War and Darlington Abbey would have added black type to their careers very early in their respective seasons.

damien is spot on.stakes race should NOT be limited to horse that come out of certain sales only.in fact, it was official that races restricted to horses from certain sales, could NOT have stakes status.i was unaware that may have changed, but if it has, it wo...

A bit left field but a prime example of black type.i owned a french bred mare that was black type having run 3rd in a group 3 fillys race. Sounds impressive.... well it was over 2600m with 4 runners and she ran 3rd beaten 24 lengths. But hey its Black type.......

The only problem I have with the MM 3YO event is the prizemoney. It's advertised as a $100,000 race but only $86,000 is paid to the first 5 home. 6th to 12th receive $2000 each which effectively is refunding the nomination fee. But because the race is advertis...

not having any/few black type races would do no harm whatsoever to wa racing(well unless you were a breeder) . . . or an owner. Black type races are part of the incentive for owners to buy fillies. Those owners than have 2 chances of getting a return. Firs...

I think if you go back and look at the winners of the MM in the past, that justifies black type or restricted listed race status....Not really bothered either way to be honest.

NSW (and to a slightly lesser degree VIC) hand out black type like lollies so I think there's somewhere in-between that is the right balance. They have far too many stakes races which makes light of achieving black type in my opinion. If you have a broodmare th...

Funkster, Breeding in the UK is for the rich & wealthy. In my opinion they pay overs in the sales ring compared to what chance they have of making any of it back on the racetrack. Their entire Industry, especially the breeding powerhouses, are the manufact...

Or maybe we let the punters decide, like in the UK where prizemoney has been decimated but breeders still survive as they have lots of black type races with pitiful fields because only a privilged few can afford to own horses. All jurisdictions need black type ...

No correlation between stakemoney and stakes races. If WA was to lose all stakes races wouldnt/ shouldnt affect stakemoney levels. A genuine Group 2 carries more cred than a fake Gr 1.
