McGruddy and Wolfe to face stewards news

McGruddy and Wolfe to face stewards

Perth Turf Talk | Metropolitan Racing | Mon 13 August, 2012

Shaun McGruddy and Steve Wolfe were questioned as to the tactics they adopted on Tiger Pete on Saturday which paid off in the 1300m McKenna Hampton Handicap with a convincing victory.

Tiger Pete has generally gone back from widish gates but pushed forward with conviction on Saturday to grab the one by one position.

The Wolfe runner was heavily supported from $4.40 to $3.50 and started from barrier 9.

That was not the only drama in race 5 as Aaron Rogers on third placed In Faith, fired in a protest against both Tiger Pete and Shady Bet. He subsequently withdrew the protest however and was fined for making a frivolous objection.

Seems more concerning when questions aren't asked about rides/tactics that are detrimental to a horse's chances. A certain amount of versatility in tactics in relation to barriers, speed etc is positive as long as the horses chances are enhanced by the changes...

Add to that.....prefer the stewards ask questions and get answers they are satisfied with, rather than ask no questions at all.
