Miller bullish about Bombora

Matt Rigby | Metropolitan Racing | Fri 24 August, 2012

Simon Miller has big plans for the relative newcomer to his stables, Bombora after the Tiger Hill gelding dragged Jess Carbery around the Belmont circuit in a recent trial. Carbery never took the handbrake off Bombora in scoring an easy win over School Rumble, with Waratah's Secret floundering in their wake.

Miller took over the preparation of Bombora for new owners, including Oz Racing's Bruce Saxild, late last year and has had just eight runs for four wins. It's hard to believe Bombora could have come back better than when he scored a hattrick of wins in June and July, but Miller claims that to be the case.

He has big plans for Bombora, culminating in the Hannan's Handicap, but there is one hurdle to overcome prior to that, which is the lead up run. Miller has two options in either the Farnley, or a ratings race where he will carry weight. A decision will be made in the next week.

Meantime, Miller has two top chances at tomorrow's program in Platinum Rocker and Grey Cheval. The former meets a very moderate field in the Tribula Hcp over 1300m. She will start short and be very hard to beat with Peter Knuckey retaining the ride.

Grey Cheval will go around in the Westspeed 3yo Handicap over 1200m. Its another outstanding field headed by Jestpatim, Tempestuous Strike, Culprit, Grand Crusade and newcomer Regal Romp. Grey Cheval  is owned by four ladies, one of whom is Miller's partner and another the wife of long time stable client and committeeman, Peter Gangemi.

The three year old Husson Lightning filly is most definitely "the ladies horse" according to Miller.
