Moet the favourite
Mr Moet has opened the warm favourite for Saturday's Group 2 CB Cox Stakes, the final lead in to the Perth Cup.
After sensationally winning the Railway Stakes first up, Mr Moet was edged out by WA's champion sprinter/ miler Luckygray in the Kingston Town. The Mosayter gelding now steps up to a distance more to his liking (2100m) and while the barrier poses a slight obstacle, Mr Moet is used to coming from well off the speed in his races, particularly over any sort of trip.
While some quality names of the past exist in the lineup, most are sadly out of form or past their primes. Lord's Ransom, Playing God, Colour Correct and Ranger could be included in that group. Playing God has never excelled at anything over 1800m although being placed twice at 2000m in top company.
Likely opposition will come from the other Durrant trained runner in Chester Road, who sat outside the leader in the Kintston Town, and dual Parnham runner God Has Spoken, who looks to be crying out for the 2100m.
Rosie Rocket is the query runner after making a huge run in the Railway, sitting deep throughout but failing inexplicably in the Kingston Town to finish second last.
Mr Moet heads the betting at $2.40 with God Has Spoken $6.50 and Chester Road $8.50. The remainder of the field are upwards of $11.
