No cups for Cranach
Stunning import Lucas Cranach, the early favourite ($15) for the Melbourne Cup, has become the first big-name to have a line through him for the spring.
Trainer Anthony Freedman said the former German galloper needed an operation to remove a bone chip.
Over $10,000 had already been traded on Betfair for Lucas, with matched prices as low as $19. TAB Sportsbet has also reportedly refunded over $16,000 worth of bets back to punters.
Freedman hopes Lucas Cranach could be back for the Hong Kong International raceday in December.

I thought this bloke would have won to be honest. Every run he's put in over here he's gone super, looked freaky in his wins prior to his Cup run and he effort in the Caulfield was huge. Big loss to the Spring.

Think most fixed odds operators offered a refund if your MC 2012 selection is not in initial nominations - player didn't specify if they did or did not, so I didn't back with them. Simenon my early tip.
