Pinjarra R1. Quality Lucerne And Shandy Chaff Maiden Review

Adam McGrath | Wed 20 March, 2013

1000m | 12:15PM

Yaloginda started as a hot favourite for Race 1 at Pinjarra. With Pike on board and having placed in superior two year old company, it was no surprise to see the money coming for this horse.

The field jumped well and they all pushed to the right side of the track. In the early stages it was almost impossible to pick a leader with how tightly bunched they were. As they came over the rise at the 550m mark, Hit The Stumps had hit the lead. Yaloginda managed to weave through the field and finally find some clear room and started winding up. However, it was Hennessy Raider who finished much stronger to beat the favourite comfortably.

Results

1. 4 HENNESSY RAIDER               $14.80/$3.00

2. 6 YALOGINDA                            $1.04

3. 8 MISS SAADI                              $3.20

Race 2 was a much more open affair on the tote compared to Race 1. Vital Spot, Special Favour and Gina Gina would all start over the $5 mark. They were still the main three that punters wanted.

Most of the horses jumped well for this race, but it was Hardwood and Magical Mak who were able to work across the field and get to the lead in the early stages. They both controlled the pace early, but it was Hardwood who looked the strongest and was able to pull away around the turn. Gina Gina who had sat in a nice position the whole race was able to roll off the fence and chase Hardwood. The pair fought back and forth, but it was Gina Gina who hit the front to win by half a length.

Results

1. 12 GINA GINA                 $8.30/$2.90

2. 7 HARDWOOD                 $3.30

3. 13 LOW FLYING              $6.00

Horses to follow:

Hardwood – This horse did some work early to cross the field and take up the lead. It let the entire way and was still able to fight back when challenged by Gina Gina who had a great race ridden by Turner. However, it was the fighting spirit and strength of Hardwood that makes me feel this is a horse to get on next time.

Commended – This horse was in a pretty average position, so Noske went to work on it early and pulled it wide. It worked extremely hard and wide around horses to get in a position to be able to challenge. It reacted well to the whip and ran on down the outside of the field to get there for third. Definitely a horse to watch.

The clear favourite for this race was Thread Lock at $4. The next horse was Celebrity Fix at $6’s and then Biscabeel at $9’s. Once again, an open race at Pinjarra where a horse at odds would cross the line first.

Flying Coco and Hell’s Lady flew out of the barriers to get across this field in no time. They were shortly joined by Zygosis who had worked its way up and also Poco who had settled in a nice position on the rail. As they turned the corner at the 300m mark it was still Flying Coco who had the lead and had cleared away from the field. Flying Coco was able to fight to the line and was never challenged. A tight finish between Zygosis, Biscabeel & Hell’s Lady would lead to photos for second and third position.

Results

1. 16 FLYING COCO                                   $15.90/$5.60

2. 6 ZYGOSIS                                                $5.30

3. 9 BISCABEEL                               $1.60

Horses to follow:

Vincente – This horse showed the ability to finish off strong. It tracked up well on the straight and just ran out of room as it caught up to the horses in front with nowhere to go.. It was a much better run by Vincente and I will be watching its next performance closely.

Biscabeel – This horse is already in our black books. In a race where the leaders lead the whole way and most couldn’t take ground off them, Biscabeel and Vincente were the only two horses that could. It stays in the black book for another week.

The punters only wanted Sentence with W. Pike on board. This horse had shown good signs in previous races and Pike electing to ride it was a good enough sign for punters to back it in.

Classico and West River Billie were the two to get away best, however they were quickly joined by Springston. Sentence had managed to get to a nice place on the rail and was looking good coming into the home straight. They packed up on the straight and it was Classico who still lead, but Sharp Turn, Sentence and Hartley’s First all managed to find gaps and sprinted to the line where Sharp Turn won from a photo for 2nd and 3rd.

Results

1. 16 SHARP TURN                          $8.50/$3.40

2. 14 BARELY RICH                                    $2.50

3. 12 SENTENCE                              $1.20

Horse to follow:

Barely Rich – This horse was just off the pace for most of the race and on the straight still didn’t look like it would play a part in the finish. However it responded well to J. Whiting and managed to hit the line hard and squeeze through the field for second. Its last 100m was sensational and definitely a horse to follow.

Again another race where all the horses were paying nice odds. Lord Balthazar was favourite at $4.10, but was closely followed by Jack ‘N’ Sam, Cocky Boy and Painted, who were all under $10 figures.

After an incident in the barriers we lost two starters for this race. After a lengthy delay it was The Pipe, Jack ‘N’ Sam and Cocky Boy who led. As they came to the 350m mark Cocky Boy had managed to hit the lead out in the middle and was looking good, but it was Painted who was closer to the right side of the track and managed to kick up to get the win. Lord Balthazar ran on and continued its run of places.

Results

1. 4 PAINTED                                    $4.30/$1.80

2. 1 COCKY BOY                             $1.50

3. 8 LORD BALTHAZAR                $1.70

Opening leg of the quaddie and it was Born To Be Wild that punters wanted. The other horses were all given a smilar chance to win with punters finding it hard to split them on the tote.

Yerakina, Classic Knowledge and Wizards Point all jumped nicely and lead after the first 300m. Yerakina continued to kick on after its quick start and had the field spread over 8-9 lengths as they came around the 600m. Antelpen worked up to the leaders around the bend, but had done some serious work to get there. As they headed to the line it was Yerakina who still had the lead, but Wizard Point was able to kick towards the line, hit the front and hold off Born To Be Wild and My Fascination who both finished off very well to get the minor places.

Results

1. 10 WIZARDS POINT                   $15.90/$4.10

2. 4 BORN TO BE WILD                 $2.00

3. 6 MY FASCINATION                  $2.90

Horses to follow:

My Fascination – This horse came from the rear of the field and was a mile off the leading group for most of the race. It was able to hit the line extremely hard and took ground off the very impressive Born To Be Wild who came home very well as well. This horse is definitely one to put in your books and watch over the next few starts.

Pinjarra R7. Chaff City Choice Of Champions Handicap Review

Adam McGrath | Wed 20 March, 2013

2000m | 4:10PM

Mystic Prince was stepping up against better company, but was the clear favourite and for good reason. This horse is definitely going places as we saw again here.

An even line jumped out for this 2000m race. Redout’s Diamond and The Purple Parrot decided to put the pace on and sprinted off to have the lead over the field. Riverbank Frank and Antoccino managed to work up to sit just behind the leaders. The leading pair tried to settle 1000m out, but they had to increase the pace again leading into the corner. The field had bunched up coming to the start of the straight and the race was up for grabs. It was the impressive horse Mystic Prince that saw this opportunity and was able to get clear and sprint to the line for a comfortable win.

Results

1.3 MYSTIC PRINCE                       $2.20/$1.30

2. 8 REVERB                                     $2.60

3. 7 RAISING DUBAI                      $2.10

3. 4 THE PURPLE PARROT                        $3.00

Horse to follow:

Mystic Prince – This horse continues to impress against better company and is definitely a horse going places. Did enough against this field and I will be continuing to follow this horse as it heads towards some nice Saturday races.

Pinjarra R8. Chaff City-pinjarra Classic Review

Adam McGrath | Wed 20 March, 2013

1500m | 4:45PM

The big race of the day, and again great odds were available for all horses. Pin Rouge who was going for 5 wins in a row started favourite at $4.80, while there was another five horses under the $10 mark. This closeness on the tote would be reflected during the race.

Mabel Grace and Pin Rouge started off extremely well. Mabel Grace was able to keep the fired up Pin Rouge out from getting to the rails and they were followed by In Faith and Mirraninon. Trustee Brown was sitting extremely well, so Troy Turner decided to pull it around the horses before the bend to work up to the leaders. They entered the straight as an extremely tight group. At the 300m mark Mabel Grace had kicked away from Pin Rouge, but it was Vermeer and Kerrific who raced home well for first and second from Mabel Grace. Vermeer had one of the best rides you will see from W. Pike to take out the Chaff City Pinjarra Classic.

Results

1. 11 VERMEER                    $6.80/$2.30

2. 5 KERRIFIC                      $3.10

3. 1 MABEL GRACE                        $2.70

Horse to follow:

Kerrific – This horse tracked up from last to get second place. It was beaten by Vermeer who had one of the best rides you will see by W. Pike. In such a competitive race and coming up against an almost perfect race from Vermeer, I think this second place was very impressive and Kerrific is one to follow through this campaign.

Pinjarra R9. Pinjarra Cup 24 March Be There Handicap Preview

Adam McGrath | Wed 20 March, 2013

1500m | 5:25PM

The last leg of the quaddie and again as we had seen all day, six horses would start under the $10 mark. Ellavamoment would start favourite in a highly competitive race to finish off a sensational day at Pinjarra Park.

The big field jumped well in the last, but it was Steppin Weapon, Woodsville and Mindovski who showed the early pace. Steppin Weapon had pulled away with 1000m to go and had a length and a half over Smart As A Fox and Woodsville. The favourite found itself 5-6 lengths off the leaders and across heels so it had to pull out three wide to try and get back into the race. As they entered the straight Mindovski and Woodsville had moved up to Steppin Weapon. Tuff As Rust charged home in the middle of the course, but could only manage second, as Leonora Larriken was able to finish off a bit stronger.

Results

1. 2 LEONORA LARRIKEN                       $10.10/$3.40

2. 6 TUFF AS RUST                          $2.80

3. 3 STEPPIN WEAPON                   $6.80

Horses to follow:

Staying with the previously suggested Ellavamoment. It had absolutely no luck in this race at all. It was a mile back and wide at the start of the straight, but was able to fight home hard and finish off well. I like this horse and it won’t be long before it gets the dream run and brings home the chocolates.

Be sure to follow myself on twitter @AdamMcGrath89 and listen to us 6am – 9am on 91.3 SportFM Sports Breakfast.

Good luck to everyone on the punt and the next review will be out after Ascots meet on Saturday.
