Scenic Blast returns to WA news

Scenic Blast returns to WA

Matt Rigby | Metropolitan Racing | Fri 2 November, 2012

The WA owned and bred Scenic Blast returns to Perth Racing on Melbourne Cup Day to run in the Yellowglen Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m), his first run in WA for more than three years.

The Newmarket Handicap, Lightning Stakes and Kings Stand Stakes winner has travelled the world since 2009, when he was beaten by Dante's Volonte in an 1100m handicap over 1100m. Since then, he has been to the USA, UK, Japan and Hong Kong to take on the best sprinters in the world. Japan, Hong Kong and the USA held no fruit for Scenic Blast, but his best deeds were done at Royal Ascot in the Kings Stand Stakes in June of 2009 when he trounced the poms on their home soil over 1005m.

Sadly, Scenic Blast has not won since and has rarely seen the good form that took him to those overwhelming heights. Barring a glimmer of form in last year's BTC Cup (1200m) where he ran second to Sea Siren, he has more often run closer to last than first.

Nonetheless it will be great to see him back in the fold at Ascot, taking on the up and coming Barakey, Werd and Waratah's Secret. Between them, the four have won in excess of $3.5 million in stakes.

Barakey will no doubt be the short priced favourite and is probably the closest thing WA has to it's next Scenic Blast.

Glad he can have a retirement unlike his half brother, who would have easily earned triple his stakes money, interestingly they both won 8 races,

That is a tragedy! That doesn't sound like an injury he could manage a retirement from, has he been put down?

Barakey ha a long long long way to go before he even resembles anything Scenic Blast has done. Agree on that he is a super horse SB
