The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, 28th Feb

Perth Turf Talk | Metropolitan Racing | Tue 3 March, 2015

The Good

Doing the West Proud II - Rommel was a very strong win in a race that I'd given him little chance in. What would Red Ora have done to that lot? W.A has two live chances in the Australian Guineas, this is the sort of promotional material that our racing needs right now.

Ring my Bell - Love his work as a caller, made the Temporise vs She's a Virtue match race sound every bit as exciting as it looked.

P. Hall - a number of jockeys could learn from that ride on Delicacy, when you're only a length or two off the leader there's no need to circle the on-pacers at the 600m mark just because you can. Not that it would've made a difference in this race. Those that were fortunate enough to hear Bob Peters interviewed before the race (saying that Neverland was 'not her normal self' in the stalls) were quickly looking away from the even money favourite.

B.Paterson - that mid race move on Already Famous was the difference between being beaten a long neck and being beaten by 3 lengths. Good judgement doesn't always pay off.

The Ike and Tina show - Troy seven winners since the 19/2, Jordan six winners since the 21/2. Looks like the young buck has raised the competitive spirit of the old dog.

Black Heart Bart - If the times listed are correct, BHB ran almost two seconds faster than than the second fastest 1300m race ran that day. There were four 1300m races so we've got a good sample to look at, and that time is sharp.

William White - His ride on Toned in the Esperance Cup was a belter.

The Bad

Friarday - So the stewards literally stated that they'd pulled his tail before the event?

Via Laurentina - Probably the last time it gets mine. Looked like she'd get there all the way up the straight but was obviously distracted by a stray box of Whiskas that someone had left near the running rail. More issues and excuses than the Barnett Party. The day she doesn't make the stewards report is probably the day she wins.

Sky Racing - So it's a Saturday night and you've got three channels available. You'll show multiple viewings of the Eastern states replays, you'll show Warwick replays, and you'll show 'Total Trials W.A' twice, but you won't show the Ascot replays at all? It's a Saturday meeting with three listed races. I'll curse your name every time I'm watching horses look like they're skating downhill in slow motion on the PR.com replays.

The Ugly

I'll be a good dog this week and leave any suggestions here to other forumites. Although Bunbury seemed heavily on-pace biased on Sunday.

Quote of the week

G.Boss - After a race he was interviewed regarding the size of his winning mount's tongue - 'He's got the best tongue in the world, you'd like to borrow it for the night I'm tipping you'd get a few dates.'

Monkey Brennan has had more success than Bairstow on both sides I would think.
