Sad Loss of Star Broodmare Kisumu
BreedingSad Loss of Star Broodmare
Tara Madgwick - Wednesday, 3 July 2013
She
was turning 10 this year and had already produced two Group I winners, so the
loss of this star broodmare is a tragic one.
Gondokoro
Australian breeder Trevor Delroy of Wyadup Valley Farm has enjoyed anoutstanding run of success in recent years having bred four Group I winners in
Ethiopia, Cedarburg, Zabeelionaire and Gondokoro, the last two both from Kisumu.
Mr Delroy confirmed yesterday that Kisumu had suffered a paddock accident in
New Zealand and was subsequently euthanized.
Zabeelionaire and Gondokoro were the first two foals from Kisumu and she has
several more to follow all of them, by the same sire Zabeel.
An unraced two year-old filly has been retained by Mr Delroy and is ready to
come to Australia to start her racing career, while her yearling colt was sold
at the recent Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $420,000.
The last foal from Kisumu is a weanling filly and she was not in foal this year
having missed last spring to Zabeel.
