The best ever??? I think so. Daylight second. Has been the best socceroo in my eyes since aus v japan wc germany 06. Just an unbelivable talent who loves the shirt.
Am not into Soccer at all, whilst acknowledging the skill and athleticism ....the diving and bad acting and the carry on whenever the ump gives a penalty are ...well, I'll leave it alone. Of course, happy that Australia has done well. But can someone tell me (genuine inquiry) why the Asian Cup includes Palestine, Iran and Iraq and a host of other Middle Eastern teams ......Seems a very "Un-Asian" Cup to the uninformed observer...me! Is it a broad interpretation of Asia Minor or...?? Where are countries like Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia etc?
Thank you. What about all the Middle Eastern Countries? How do they get a guernsey when geographically, it's a broad stretch to include them in Asia? Are India, Pakistan, Russia etc eligible and just didn't qualify?
mmm, middle east asia? do not tell them that...it wasn't when I was there. maybe they are stretching the geographical lines....to keep them having the choice of asia or Europe. having lived in Greece, their thinking is more Asian...ie middle eastern than European. never should have been allowed in the EU, let alone embrace the euro....just watch the up coming election, if the left get in they will renege on their 700billion euro loan.....middle eastern logic... :-B
VERY interesting, tivs, i'll have a good read of it later....thankyou. try telling a jew they are in asia and see where it gets you. turkey...or more Istanbul (one of my fav. cities..been there about 6 times) of course straddles asia and Europe..perhaps because of its size that extends so far east...it is a very big country.
interesting discussion, tivs. "if the middle east isn't asia, what continent is it on"? ok, what continent is Russia and China on? Russia obviously Europe..China, which borders Russia.? Turkey and Israel had the choice..are they not either asia or Europe...despite the obvious reasons? that whole land mass extends right to the English channel..why are Germany, Holland, france etc not asia? where does Europe begin? very interesting tivs...thanks.
missed the game last night but saw the highlights this morning....Looked like a really good hit out for the team, but those two goals by Cahill were all class.
The first was spectacular, the second was coated in all the class, power and accuracy that he has shown for so much of his career..

Other than when I'm in Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast & Northbridge I didn't realise Australia wass in Asia either!!! :-B
The first goal was a ripper, but a lesson to be learned for defenders.
From the corner kick, Cahill and the defender (their skipper I think), contested a header, there was a head clash, the defender went down and stayed down. The ball was not fully cleared, came back in, and as a result of the player being on the deck, Cahill got a little space and the rest, as they say, is history.
The defender ended up playing on, so the injury was not severe, so he may think twice about doing what seems to be standard in football, and staying on the deck looking for a free kick.

Middle East isn't a continent.
And yes, all those countries didn't get past qualification - Exocet Russia who span both Europe and Asia, but elect to play in Europe.

Turkey is the border, yes.
They also elect to play in Europe - as do Israel, for obvious reasons...(safety primarily)
